Bulletin board system (BBS) launched in 1978 and was considered one of the earliest forms of online communication amongst normal people on a local and regional scale. Niche groups could talk about their interest and it kind of reminds me of Reddit.

The members in my family would use it to communicate with our other family and friends back in Nepal and I just remember it being such a big way for people to talk to one another and share what’s happening in their lives.

TikTok to me is linked with the Covid pandemic when everybody was inside and online and it really impacted people on a global scale because of the fast paced content, and the never ending release of it had users on it constantly. A lot of issues were brought up with TikTok shortening the attention span of users, still the pros of it was making people more creative and allowing a more intimate experience for all users.
