    Sputnik 1 is the 1st ever artificial satellite launched, it was launched by the Soviet Union and orbited Earth. The reason it was launched was to detect meteors. It burned up while reentering Earth's atmosphere on January 4th, 1958
  • Vostok 1

    Vostok 1
    Vostok 1 was the 1st spacecraft to carry a human into space and the 1st to orbit earth. The pilot was Yuri Gagznin a Soviet Union pilot, the 1st person the travel into space. The spacecraft orbited Earth once at a speed of 27,400 kilometers per hour.

    Apollo 11 mission was launched by NASA and on July 16th, 1969, it landed on the moon. 4 days later Neil Armstrong and Buzz Alchrin landed on the moon. Neil Armstrong was the 1st to step onto the moon.

    Columbia space shuttle

    April 1981 First reuseable space shuttle the Columbia space shuttle. A large step for modern day spaceships. The challenger which was another reusable space shuttle exploded January 28th, 1986, killing 7 members including the supposed 1st civilian to go to space. The Columbia disintegrated while re-entering Earth’s atmosphere on February 1st, 2003.

    April 25th, 1990 The Hubble Space Telescope was deployed which is still In low Earth orbit. This helped determine atmospheric composition of planets. This was very important in understanding the universe.

    November 2nd, 2000 The ISS began housing humans and has been since a observing and research hub of microgravity to help develop for future missions.

    Space X Dragon 1 began cargo missions to the ISS and back to Earth to deliver and return resources to astronauts in the ISS. The Dragon 1 was developed by Elon Musk.

    November 16th 2020 Space X Crew-1 first operational crewed flight by Space X and 2nd crewed orbital flight since the ending of the space shuttle program in 2011. This created a new era of transporting astronauts to and from the ISS.
