Apple introduced the first iPad and it was highly marketed to schools for the classroom. Its built-in features, add-ons and tools were seen as a way to bring more possibilities to the classroom. It even offered accessibility to students with disabilities. -
Skype in the classroom
In 2011 Skype was introduced to students and teachers. This was great because students could communicate with other students from all around the world in person instead of through letters. It also allowed for students to learn about other cultures. It also allowed teachers to video conference each other. -
Google started piloting chrome books in their classrooms
Chromebook was first introduced and google begn to pilot the Chromebook to schools nationwide. The Chromebook had a low price tag that started at $99. It was advertised as easy to use, low maintenance, students could share them and have their own account. -
Kahoot!
This is a really great fun platform where you can create educational quizzes. Students can even create their own. They can gain points for prizes and can score the grade and where the student ranks. It is used in schools all over even universities. -
Google Classroom
During this time Google Classroom was introduced. I was advertised as an application to save teachers time. They have since added features and it offers features for teachers, admin, students and parents to collaborate. -
3D Printing in the classroom
3D printing in education can provide many skills in education. Some of these things include design and creativity, Computer literacy, problem-solving,3d modeling, critical thinking, teamwork, stem and so much more. -
Minecraft Education Addition
Minecraft was introduces to the classroom in late 2016 as an education edition. It allows teachers to have fun interactive lessons in the classroom. They can learn to code, build cities and more with this educational game. -
2017 National Education Technology Plan Update
In 2017, this plan was updated to provide a national vision for learning that uses technology. Some of the trends were virtual and augmented reality, media literacy, digital citizenship, adaptive learning, artificial intelligence learning and machine learning. -

VR in the classroom is a great way for teachers to travel through history or just to another country to teach students about other cultures. -
DLT- Distributed Ledger Technology
Colleges and school districts begin using this technology for cloud storage and securing student transfers. It can be used as a way to verify Massive Open Online Courses and ePortfolios. -
AI Technology in education
AI started being presented to the classroom for personalized learning, automated grading and attendance support, student monitoring and helping students with disabilities.
