    Learning to use a VCR

1st grade- After school I ran to my neighbor's house. We decided to watch Antz, because it was cool. The movie wouldn't play. I figured out it was because the movie was over so I pressed the re-wind button on the TV until the movie started at the beginning. We started to watch it. In five minutes the movie began to skip and it was impossible to watch. I tried fast-forwarding. It didn't work. The screen went fuzzy. We watched Bugs Life instead. I was proud of my effort troubleshooting.
  • Learning to Type

    Learning to Type

3rd grade- My mom was concerned that I was typing too slowly on my school reports, so she asked the technology teacher for CDs that I could borrow and practice typing. She told me that I should be able to type faster by now, and didn't understand why I hadn't been given typing lessons in school. She was afraid I was falling behind. I practiced typing 30 mins per day until I could type quickly without looking at the keyboard.

6th grade- I wanted to create an account on the Neopets website so I could adopt virtual pets with my friend, Jessica. But I needed an email address to create the account. Jessica's mom called my mom on the landline phone and asked permission for me to create an email address. And My mom ACTUALLY said Yes!! My first email address was: alfredo_cat21@hotmail.com I kept it until it disappeared from the internet and Hotmail became MSN.

Learning to use a Video Camera

7th grade- I'd finally saved up for 1.5 years to buy a video camera for $653. My dad took me to Costco and we picked it out. I had a choice between mini VC tapes. I chose the miniVC tapes because they ran for 2 hours. The mini DVDs only ran for 30 minutes. I used the camera to make videos for school projects (like a Treasure Island skit), Spanish commercials (Haas Avocados), and also to record wildlife (my cat, wild chickens, and my sister).

Learning HTML & Creating a Website

8th grade - We had to design business cards for our dream career - I was a sheep farmer. Next, we learned HTML code and made websites (from scratch) to promote our business. I promoted the business of selling my sheep's spun wool to make clothes. Our technology teacher was so proud of us that she decorated computer mice and gave them to us when we graduated.
