  • Theodore Roosevelt

    Theodore Roosevelt was born October 27th, 1858 to Martha Bulloch Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt Sr. He was born in New York city and died at 60 years old.
  • Pelican Island

    The first national wildlife refuge in the United States. It was established by Teddy Roosevelt in 1903 to protect brown pelicans and other birds from hunters.
  • Elkins Act Passed

    A federal law that prohibited railroads from offering refunds to shippers, which put an end to a practice that gave larger corporations unfair advantages over smaller businesses.
  • McKinley Assassination

    William McKinley was shot in Buffalo, New York, six months into his second term. He was shaking hands with the public when an anarchist, Leon Czolgosz, shot him twice. His vice president, Theodore Rooselevelt, became president shortly after on September 14th, 1901.
  • Anthracite Coal Strike

    A major strike where 150000 miners fought for higher wages, shorter hours, and better working conditions. The strike was 163 days and ended with a 10% wage increase and a 9-hour workday.
  • Devils Tower

    A massive national monument in Wyoming known for its strong cultural and spiritual significance to many Native American tribes in the area.
  • Pure Food and Drug Act

    The Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 was a landmark federal law that prohibited the sale of misbranded/mislabeled food and drugs to prevent sickness and disease from spreading.
  • Theodore Roosevelt's First Full Term

    Theodore Roosevelt first became president after the assassination of William McKinley. But he was elected to serve his first full term in 1904 and inaugurated on March 4th, 1905.
  • Yosemite's Federal Control

    Yosemite was put under federal control in 1906. Yosemite Valley and Mariposa Grove had previously been state-managed until they joined the high country, which had been named as a national park since 1890. In Theodore Roosevelt's camping trip in 1903, he discussed protecting the land and signed a federal legislation in 1906.
