Because the Smithsonian expedition was funded by the well known Andrew Carnegie, Roosevelt wanted to make sure that he got to explore and document Africa before the industrialization reached Africa. -
Theodore Roosevelt established the Bull Moose Party, also known as the Progressive Party, just before the election 1912. Because, he lost against the even more conservative William Howard Taft in the Republican nomination, Roosevelt started the Bull Moose Party. The party focused on "New Nationalism", including women's rights, calling for many progressive reforms. His party became the most successful party in the United States during the general election 1912, and got 88 electoral votes.
