After crossing the river, Washington and his soldiers surprise attacked the soldiers of Trenton. Americans captured over 900 of the Trenton soldiers and suffered few loses. This event boosted American soldiers confidence and soldiers wanted to stay in the army.

Washington was defeated by British forces, they also took Philadelphia, forcing out the Continental Congress. Washington would try to retake the city but would fail. Philadelphia became the British capital for a short period. This event was a small setback for the Americans.

George Washington's army had to undergo a tough winter at Valley Forge. They also went through hunger, disease, and not enough supplies to keep them going, this lead to many soldiers dying or left behind because of their condition. However they did receive training from Baron von Steuben, this greatly boosted the army's discipline and lead to the soldiers coming out stronger and more ready for later battles.

The treaty that ended the Revolutionary war. Britain recognized the United States as independent, also gave them land going to the Mississippi River. This event secured the Americans Independence.
