These laws admitted California as a free state and created the territories of Utah and New Mexico were the slave issue would be decided by what the majority of the population wanted.

    The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 was a law that required all slaves which had escaped from their masters to return to them even if they were on a free state.

    Uncle's Tom Cabin is an anti-slavery novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe which significantly influenced public opinion regarding slavery due to its vivid depiction of slavery. This novel created more tension between the North and South contributing to the break out of the civil war.

    What to the slave, is the fourth of July was a speech given by Frederick Douglass which strongly debated American slavery and the hipocrisy of celebrating freedom for everyone while African Americans could not have it. This novel had a direct impact on the abolitionist movement.

    The Kansas-Nebraska Act was an act passed by congress which repealed the previously set Missouri compromise. This act allowed settlers from different states to decide if slavery should be allowed in their state or not based on what the majority of the population desired.

    The South Carolina Secede from the US was the immidiate response to the election of president Abraham Lincoln due to his anti-slavery beliefs from South Carolina, it was the first state to secede from the US due to this matter and gave an example for other states to follow this lead ultimately resulting in the civil war.

    The Confederate States Of America was a self-declared country formed by states which seceded from the US in protest of the issue of slavery. This union launched an attack on the US which marked the beginning of the civil war.

    The Battle Of Fort Sumter was the first military conflict from the American Civil War fought primarily due to the issue of slavery and the secede of several states. This battle resulted in the surrender of Confederate troops less than 34 hours after the initial attack was launched.
