The Iron Curtain
The border between the Democratic Nations, and the Communist Nations, splitting Eastern and Western Europe. There is still some Communist influence in countries that were behind the Iron Curtain. -
Truman Doctrine
Pledged American support for Democratic Nations, an attempt to stop the spread of Communism, and became the foundation for the Marshall Plan. -
Marshall Plan
American foreign aid provided to Western European Nations. Assisstance was offered to Russia and her Allies, but was denied. Russia denying assistance from America may have been the first sign of rising tensions between America and Russia. -
The Berlin Blockade
The U.S.S.R. stopped all supplies from getting to the Western controlled Capitol of Germany Berlin. NATO responded by airdropping supplies instead of driving them in. NATO pretty much ignored all Russian threats, to the point of almost pretending they weren't a threat. -
Formation of NATO
NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) formed as a Collective Security System. A member state of NATO will defend another member in the event of a third party attack. -
The End of the Berlin Blockade
The U.S.S.R. eventually gave up on stopping supplies from getting to Berlin, after no reaction from NATO of repeated threats. -
The Korean War
The Korean Civil War, the North is backed by Communist China, and South is backed by Capatolist America. Another Proxy War. The first major ground offensive taken on by American troops, and another major loss of american lives. -
Mutual Security Act
A replacement to the Marshall Plan, focused on brining Aid to Western Nations to stop the spread of communism. Deliberity leaving Russia out of Aid, and promising to make an active effort to irradicate communism. -
The End of the Korean War
After each side had pushed to the brink, they met back in the middle of the nation, and with minor border changes, they set up a demilitarized zone, and stopped the fighting. Demilitarized Zone stands to this day. -
The Formation of the Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact is the U.S.S.R.'s response to NATO. Bringing together all the U.S.S.R.'s allies under a collective secruity system as well. An alliance of communist Nations is one more thing to worry about for NATO. -
Vietnam War
Another Proxy War fought between China and the U.S. The U.S. did not tell the public about its involvement until much later, and did not ramp up there involvement until the mid 1960s. More American lives lost, which the American people thought was pointless. -
The Space Race (Russia's First)
Russia was the first country to get something orbiting the Earth, that thing being Sputnik 1, or just Sputnik. This sparked the beginning of the Space Race between U.S. and Russia, both dumping massive amounts of money into they own space programs, and fighting to be the first one to the moon. All of the sudden Russia is ahead of America when it comes to technology, and they've shown that to the world. -
The Berlin Wall
The Wall separating Berlin into the East and West halves is built. This is just one more thing for people to think about, Russia so concerned with control over their piece of Berlin, they build a wall to keep people from getting out. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The U.S.S.R. placed missiles in Cuba in response to American missiles being placed in Western Europe. There were nukes on an Island right next to American. And they weren't our nukes. NATO and America weren't exactly happy with that, but eventually came to a peaceful solution. -
The Space Race (American Victory)
NASA managed to get Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to moon before the U.S.S.R. space program could a human to the moon. America is back on top. We're good. USA! USA! USA! With the end of the space race it meant the money NASA no longer needed could be put elsewhere, like the Defense budget. Can never have enough money in the Defense budgeet. USA! USA! -
The U.S. withdraws from Vietnam
After a clear public distaste of the Vietnam war, the U.S. pulls all troops back 2 years before the War officially comes to a close. People finally got tired of the Vietnam War so the president pulled all troops, and left Vietnam to become a Communist Nation. -
The End of the Berlin Wall
Starting with the opening of a border gate between Austria and Hungary, leading to a peaceful chain reaction of protests, and the resignation of Erich Honecker, the leader of the East German Bloc. Over the next few years, the wall would come down everywhere. One of the final straws on the Camels back. People were doing anything to leave the Eastern Bloc, and that "brain damage" was killing the U.S.S.R. -
The fall of the Iron Curtain
The final piece of the Iron Curtain falls, alowing for nations to chose for themselves, Communism or Democracy. It fell with the Soviet Union, and the surrounding countries could be free. And American could go on pouring money into Defense without the threat of communism looming. 'MERICA! -
Dissolution of the Soviet Union
After most countries had witheld support or fomally withdrawn from the Warsaw pact, the Soviet union finally disovled into its individual countries, with a lot of the smaller nations previously a part of the U.S.S.R. joining NATO and the UN as their own country. And to prove that Capatolist ideas have their way into Russia, McDonalds got their first fast food restaurant opened, in 1991. CAPATOLISM RULES! RUSSIA FINALLY GOT THE BIGMAC!
