Germany breaks through the Polish borders, quickly advancing towards the capital, Warsaw. Hundreds of thousands of refugees fled the German advance, in hopes of the Polish arm halting them. This starts the war in Europe. -

Nazie Establish Gas Chambers at Auschwitz
Auschwitz was one of many gas Chambers used to execute people in the concentration camps. At first they were used to kill people who couldn't work at the camps, but then they were used to kill Jews. Also, these gas chambers would have a chamber right next to it that would have water come out the pipes instead of gas. This led to people waiting in line not rebelling because they didn't know if they would die. -
Tripartite Pact Signed
This Pact formally created an alliance between Japan, Germany, and Italy. This made the Axis Powers. -

In the morning, 177 Japanese aircraft fly Pearl Harbor, in Oahu, bombing the American naval base. This angers the American government, and leads to the Americans joining WWII. -

President Roosevelt ordered all Japanese Americans to Internment Camps because of the Bombing of Pearl Harbor. -
D-Day
The allied armies storm Normand, France using air, sea and land forces. The operation delivered 5 naval assault divisions. -
Iwo Jima
After 36 days of fighting, the U.S. Marines secured the island of Iwo Jima. They captured 216 Japanese soldiers. Though nearly 7,000 Marines were killed and almost 20,000 were injured. -

Germany surrenders first, ending the war in Europe. Japan doesn't surrender till later, after the 2 bombings. -
Atomic Bombs are Dropped on Japan
The United States drops two atomic bombs over the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They do this to persuade the final Axis power, Japan, to surrender.
