Kent State Shooting
Occured at Kent Stste University in Ohio and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by ohio National Guard. Four students were killed,and 9 ohters were wounded. This event epitomized the division that the Vietnam War had created in America. -
Invasion of Cambodia
U.S. troops were told to invade Cambodia who was not a part of the war in Vietnam. The cause was to stop training of the Vietcong. Made a huge anti-war epidempic in America. The war became worse than before. -
The film "The Godfather" is released
A movie about the Mafia. Taught people about the Mafia, and that they weren't all bad. The film also made people fear to trust people. -
Watergate Break-in
Five men attempted to break into a democratic Party office. All men were caught and had relationships in some way to President Nixon. -
Mark Spitz wins 7 Gold Medals at Olympics in Munich, West Germany
Mark Spitz was a Jewish American olympic swimmer and was able to recieve seven gold medals, one gold medal for each event he took place in. This was a world record which wasn't surpassed until Micheal Phelps in the 2008 Bejing olympics. He was praised around the world for his achievments. -
U.S. Supreme rules on Roe V. Wade
This was the case of nationwide right to abortion. This gave the more rirhgtd to women and their own bodies. -
Congress Initiates Impeachment Proceedings Against Nixon
After the Watergate scandal, President Nixon was threatedned with impeachment because of the scandal. Although, before they could impeach him, Nixon had resigned from office. President Richard Nixon still is the only president to have resigned from office. -
American Withrawal from Vietnam
This was the proccess of Vietnamization. This is where President Nixon was slowly getting out of the war in Vietnam. People in America were very happy to hear this. -

19 year old Patty Hearst was kidnapped from her apartment in Berkeley California. The Symbian Liberation Army demanded the family pay nearly $400 million to feed the needy. -

The Bicentenniel celebration was a celebration that people respected the historical events that lead to the creation of the USA's Independence. On this day people shot off fireworks and a fleet of tall masted ships sailed into New York and then in Boston a week later. -
Democrat Jimmy Carter Becomes President of the United States
Jimmy Carter served as a naval officer, two terms of Gorgia State's Senator, and one term as the Govoner of Gorgia. He signed the Chrysler Corporation Loan which garunteed bailing out Chrysler. He cancelled millitary pay raises during a time of high inflation. -
Majority of Draft Evaders are Pardoned by Jimmy Carter
Carter announced that those who escaped the draft by fleaing to other countries or failing to register would not be charged and would be free. -

The Television series "Roots" was a series that showed people the hardships nd horrors of slavery. The mistreatment of slaves and the human cost of slavery. This series came from the novel written by Alex Haley family line from being slaces to being liberated. -

The Commodore was a desktop computer, with a tape cassette, key board and monitor. These sold for $595.00. This was the Commodores first full featured computer that formed the basis for the entire 8-bit product line. -

Three Mile Island Nuclear Accident
Three mile island disaster occurred in a U.S. nuclear reacter in Dauphin County Pennsylvania. This was the worst accident in U.S. commercial nuclear powerplant history. This event resulted in small amounts of radioactive gasses and iodine into the environment. -
Iran Hostage Crisis Begins
The Iran Hostage Crisis was a diplomatic crisis between Iran and the U.S. Fifty Two U.S. held hostage for four-hundred-fourty-four days. Iranian students stormed the us Embassy in Tehran. This event was believed to cost Jimmy Carter a Second term as President.
