It took eight years of conflict, from 1775 to 1783 before Britain gave the new nation complete independance. The declaration of independance states that all men are created equal and that the government role is to protect the human rights of the people wich are life, liberty and the persuit of happines.

As more people settled in North America and began to develop farms and industry, they began to question whether it was a good idea to be part of Britain, and decided to declare their independance. In 1776 the colonies signed the Declaration of independance. The transition to an independent country was not peaceful.
