The group affected Vietnam, the United States and the French. It raised tensions between the US and USSR. The US was scared of the Domino effect. -

The main conflict of the first Indochina war was Vietnam and the French Government. France, Indochina, and the United states were all greatly impacted by this war. This made the war between communist and capitalist continue throughout the world. -

The domino theory represents communism spreading if one country was communist soon the other would be too. America was greatly impacted by this event becuase it scared them and Lyndon B. Johnson was willing to do anything to stop communism from spreading. This policy ultimately pushed the United States to enter into wars in Korea, Vietnam, and other Cold War conflicts. -
America Aids France
This event was related to the Indochina war the US aided France due to the fear of communism spreading further. America, France, and Indochina were all affected by this. Made the USSR mad that communism couldn’t spread due to America aiding France. -
The Geneva Accords
The primary conflict was between France and North Vietnam. The Accords aimed to end the war, but that did not happen. Vietnam, France, Indochina, and the United States were affected by this. increased tensions between the US and USSR by solidifying the division of Vietnam and sparking a Cold War proxy conflict in the region. -
Diệm’s assassination
Deims assassination stemmed from several factors, including his unpopularity due to his authoritarian rule, his persecution of Buddhists, and his perceived ineffectiveness in combating the VietCong. The United States was affected by the assasination. This lead to further tensions between the US and USSR. -
The Gulf of Tonkin Incident
The Gulf of Tonkin Incident happened when the USS Maddox was attacked by Vietnam Torpedo ships. The United States and Vietnam was affected by the event. The United States sent an air strike on vietnam after the USS Maddox was attacked. This lead to increased involvement for the US in Vietnam. -
The Tet Offensive
The Tet Offensive was a series of coordinated surprise attacks by the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army against South Vietnamese and American forces. America, North and South Vietnam were affected. This event made even more involvement with Vietnam and raised tensions between the US and Vietnam. -
My Lai Massacre
The My Lai Massacre was a sad day when US forces raided a Vietnamese village and killed thousands of innocent civilians. The Vietnamese were deeply affected by this and lost lots of people that day. The My Lai massacre raised more tension between America and North Vietnam. -
Use of Agent Orange
Agent Orange, a herbicide and defoliant, was used by the U.S. military in Vietnam from 1962 to 1971 to remove trees and dense vegetation that provided cover for enemy forces. This meant less food supply and bad air quality for Vietnamese. Viets could not spread communism as well now. -
U.S. troop withdrawals and Vietnamization
America was decreasing in power and strength, so America decided to withdraw their troops from Vietnam. The United States and South Vietnam were affected by this. The withdrawal did allow for a shift in focus for both the US and USSR potentially lessening direct confrontation. -
War Powers Act
The War Powers Resolution is a federal law intended to check the U.S. president's power to commit the United States to an armed conflict without the consent of the U.S. Congress. This means the U.S. President couldn’t declare war without the consent of Congress. -
The Fall of Saigon
North Vietnamese forces had captured Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam, and reunited the country as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This showed the U.S failure to defeat vietnam which directly impacted the cold war.
