William Golding was born in Newquay, Cornwall, England, on September 19, 1911. His parents were Alec and Mildred Golding.

William, as a child, was afraid of graves. He once climbed up a chestnut tree to get away from one. His father wanted him to pursue a career in science, but William began writing at a young age.

William went to Brasenose College, Oxford University in England. He went to learn science, but eventually he changed to English literature and graduated.

He then wrote his most famous book of all time, The Lord of the Flies. This book was about kids being stranded on an island and fighting to survive. This book was loved by many.
