    In William Golding's childhood, he enjoyed reading and even writing a few books. He also enjoyed swimming on the beaches. His brother Joseph and he had an interesting relationship. Apparently, Williams' brother would go down to the beach to watch the men get rescued during WW1, and his brother was to have said there were bits of men in the boats. Things like this and many others are likely to be why his writing is how it is in his books.

    Although William did write a few books as a child, he published his first piece of literature in 1934, called Poems, and over the course of his career, he wrote 12 novels, some of which include The Lord of the Flies, The Spire, and The Pyramid. He also worked as a writer, actor, and producer.

    William enlisted in WW2 during the 1940s as a Naval lieutenant. He took part in many battles, such as the sinking of the Bismarck D-Day ,and the battle of Walcheren.

    After experiencing many traumas like WW2, he began to write the book lord of the Flies. He wrote this book to show the evils of human nature, such as the ones he experienced in the war. The book was published on September 17th, 1954.
