    The Battle of Verdun

From February 21st through December 18, 1916, the Battle of Verdun occurred along the Meuse River in France. The Germans were trying to lead the French white by attacking the city of Verdun because it had been previously weakened by the repositioning of French Soldiers earlier. The Germans wanted to take this city because of its location and because it was a symbol of French pride, but they failed, and all that changed was the casualty count, which was between 700,000 to 800,000.
