While attempting to leave, Mariam finds a man who she believes will be willing to act as her male family member so that she can leave without suspection. However, as they were getting onto the train, the man tells the guard and Mariam, Laila, and Aziza are forced to go back home.

Najibullah is presdient of Afghanistan until he is assassinated by the Taliban in 1996. He died by being dragged behind a truck on the streets. After his death, he was hanged on display to show the public the power the Taliban.
