Abraham decides to leave home and venture off on his own. He went to New Orleans for a transport job and saw harsh slavery. He ended up moving to New Salem, Illinois; living at Rutledge's tavern. On August 1st Abraham casts a ballot for the government.

Abraham Lincoln joins the Black Hawk War of 1832 as a militia member of Illinois. He was elected a general of volunteers, He ran for Illinois State Legislature during this time. On August 6th he was defeated.

Abraham becomes a postmaster in New Salem and meets Mary Owen.

Abe is elected as a Illinois State Legislature and wins. He is advised to study law and does so during the summer. Dec. 1st; he was put into Vandalia for the states' government. He was later put into the the "Long Nine," a delegation.

Lincoln is elected a second term for the Illinois State Legislature. On the 9th he is licensed to practice law in the U.S.

Abe moves to Springfield, Illinois after being admitted to the Illinois bar. He became a partner of John Stuart's law firm in Springfield. Mary Owens also rejected his marriage proposal this year.

Abraham meets Mary Anne Todd in Springfield, Illinois. The two most likely met at a ball.
