    Erskine Lloyd Sandiford (DLP) becomes Prime Minister following Barrow's death.

    Owen Arthur becomes Prime Minister after his BLP won a decisive victory in the General Election, securing 19 of the 28 seats in the House of Assembly, the lower house of parliament.

    Barbados is removed from the list of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) of countries considered tax havens that do not cooperate. The country was placed on the list in 2000.
