    The first permanent english settlement was Jamestown. Jamestown was in Virginia and was settled by the Pilgrims. Jamestown was settled in 1607.

    Slavery in the colonies
    The transatlantic slave trade brought african american slaves to america. slaves don't earn money. they have no rights. they have always been a slave and they are separated from their families. Slaves can't learn, cant vote, and have no political voice.

    The virginia house of burgesses was the first form of government. It was made up of white male church members. They owned land and were elected burgesses(representatives) to represent.

    The mayflower compact was a document that stated agreements between the Pilgrims, so that everyone stayed in line.

    The new england colonies were made up of new hampshire, massachusetts, rhode island, and connecticut. The religions in the new england colonies were puritans and pilgrims.The economy was shipbuilding, logging/ raw materials, fishing/whaling, and trade. The government was a representative government. The had town meetings and free blacks lived in this region. The new england colonies had a cold climate, short growing seasons, forests, natural harbors, poor soil, and were next to the atlantic.

    The southern colonies were made up of georgia, maryland, virginia, and north/south carolina. The religion in the southern colonies is catholic. There were plantations, slavery, cash crops, and raw materials/ trade.The government in the southern colonies were colonial assemblies with an england appointed governor. There were the appalachian mountains, rich soil, warm climate, and navigable rivers.

    The middle colonies were made up of new york, pennsylvania, new jersey, and delaware. The religion in the middle colonies were the quakers.The middle colonies were made up of large farms, logging/ fishing, iron mining, and trade/ cattle. The government in the middle colonies met in colonial assemblies. There were many immigrants. They had rich soil, mild winters, rolling hills, rivers, natural ports, and natural harbors.

    The proclamation of 1763 was issued to maintain order and peace with the native americans. The proclamation prohibited colonists from settling west of the appalachian mountains. The colonists did not like the proclamation because they believed that moving west was a god given right.

    The stamp act was a tax on all printed materials. Colonists protested the stamp act by burning effigies and refusing to but british goods. The sons of liberty was a secret society the protested the stamp act. As a result of the protests/ boycotts, britain gave colonial governments a higher position.

    The quartering act is when colonists had to allow british soldiers to eat and sleep in their homes. The colonists did not like the quartering act because it was expensive and the soldiers had warrants to take anything they thought was unlawful.

    The townshend acts were taxed on imported goods. The colonists and daughters and sons of liberty responded to the acts by making their own cloth and replaced the goods coming from britain.

    the boston massacre was a fight between colonists and the soldiers which turned deadly. Crispus attucks was considered the first casualty in the revolution. John adams was a lawyer who defended the soldiers to prove a point that everyone is equal.

    the tea act made it to where the colonists could only buy tea from britain. colonists were upset because they did not want to be told who they can buy tea from and they refused to unload ships/ they stopped drinking it.
