Teton Sioux demanded one of the expedition's boats to be given as a toll before further continuing up the river. This turned into a dispute but thanks to Chief Black Buffalo the problem was resolved and the explorers could continue and even get help from the tribe; they traveled together for three more days. This is important because without the Chief's involvement the probability of a dispute could have ended with casualties; therefore change the expedition.

Toussaint Charbonneau was a French Canadian fur trader was hired as an interpreter. His wife, Sacagawea proves also to be helpful by showing her knowledge of nature and Missouri roots. This is important because without the explorers meeting Toussaint and Sacagawea they would not have gotten as far or known as much.

The explorers traveled across the Shoshones and discovered Sacagawea's long lost brother, who was chief of the Camehwaits. This connection helped them because they got resources from the native americans so they could continue their expedition.

Clark writes a famous journal entry that he sees the ocean. But in actuality they are 20 miles from the sea and have to half the expedition for 3 weeks while a storm passes. Lewis and Clark return back to Washington D.C and recieve a generous amount of land. Also Lewis is named governor of Louisiana Territory; Clark is made Indian agent and brigadier general of the territory. This is important because they finally get recognized for their work.
