Pravin Herlekar, Chairman of Omkar Speciality Chemicals, a Rs 100-crore bulk drug maker based in Badlapur, near Mumbai, learned the hard way that it is not always true. His company dumped its Japanese supplier of selenium when it found a cheaper source in China. But, Herlekar says, the Chinese suppliers resisted inspection of shipments before delivery. Within a few months, the intermediates that Omkar made using Chinese selenium began to suffer from quality issues. The company went back to sourcing selenium from Japan.

Generadora Eolica Argentina del Sur SA (Geassa) expects to receive a $3 billion loan from the China Development Bank Corp. for a planned 1,350 MW wind farm in Argentina, according to Bloomberg.The wind project will use Chinese turbines packaged with financing that is less expensive and easier to arrange. The country has been blocked from international bond markets such as ones in the U.S. and Europe since it defaulted on $95 billion of debt in 2001 and 2002, the article said.The 12-year loan will have an annual interest rate of 6.25 percent above the London Interbank Offer Rate (Libor), and a two-year grace period, according to the article.China’s Beijing Construction Engineering Group will build the project. The construction group and the unnamed turbine supplier will jointly own 25 percent of the project, the article said.
