  • The First Anglo-Powhatan War

    The  First Anglo-Powhatan War
    Location: Paspahegh capital, Appomattoc
    Dates: 1610-1614
    Reason: They both believed they were superior, there were land disputes, broken treaties, and the settlers forced relocation on INdian reservations
    People Involved: English settlers in the Virginian colony and the Algonquian-speakin tribes in the Powhatan Confederacy
    No Alliances.
    Result: Peace Treaty ends it.
  • The Jamestown Massacre

    The Jamestown Massacre
    Location: Jamestown, Virginia
    Date of Conflict: March 22, 1622
    Reason: The progression of the English settlement on the Native American's land and the settler's disregard for the Native's beliefs and culture caused conflict.
    People Involved: The Algonquian Indians and English Settlers of Jamestown.
    No Alliances.
  • Jamestown Massacre Continued

    Jamestown Massacre Continued
    Results: At least 350 settlers were killed. Later 500-600 lives were lost due to famine and disease. This severred all ties between Indians and the English settlers, fortifiyng their separation.
    Peace treaty signed in 1632 officially separating the Natives and the settlers.
  • The Second Anglo-Powhatan War

    The Second Anglo-Powhatan War
    Location: the same as the first
    Dates: around 1622-1632
    Causes: unrest between the Powhatan Indians and the English settlers, increased by the death of Pocahontus
    People Involved: Opechancanough , Powhatan and English stetlers
    No Alliances.
    Results: Natives defeated in 1632, English began to expand their settlement
  • The Pequot War

    The Pequot War
    Location: Connecticut and New England area
    Dates: around 1634-1638
    Causes: fur trade attracted the colonists to the area, therefore they invaded the Pequot homeland, the inter-tribal battles broke down any alliances and weakened the Native Americans, colonists and traders made alliances with idfferent tribes to strengthen their power in Connecticut, the Massachusetts Bay colony then started to develop wampum that tribes used for currency and which was controlled by Pequot. Then hostility arised
  • Pequot War Continued

    Pequot War Continued
    People Invlolved: Pequots, Massachusetts Bay, Plymouth, Connecticut English colonies; the Narragansett, and Mohegan tribes.
    Alliances: previously mentioned above.
    Result: Pequots were defeated and forced to sign the treaty of Hartford declaring the Pequot nation to be dissolved
  • The Third Anglo-Powhatan War

    The Third Anglo-Powhatan War
    Location: same as the first
    Dates: 1644-1646
    Causes: more encroachment on Indian land caused attacks from the Powhatan, English responded by declaring a war
    People Involved: Powhatan and several alliances led Opechancanough, and the English settlers
    Alliances: several INdian tribes led by Opechancanough
    Result: about 400-500 English settlers died/captured, Opechancanough died, and a treaty was signed.
  • The King Philip's War

    The King Philip's War
    Location: New England
    Dates:1675-1678
    Causes: the Wampanoag braves killed some English cattle in Bristol, Rhode Island and a farmr killed an Indian
    People Involved: Pokanokets, Wampanoag Indian Federation, and English Settlers
    No Alliances.
    Result: over 600 coonists and 3,000 Natives died (mainly from disieases), destruction of families and communities, took forever to recover, King Philip was beheaded
  • King William's War

    King William's War
    Location: The colonies in present day Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey.
    Dates: 1688-1689
    Cause: The French and Indian wanted dominance in North America for fur perposes.
    People involved: The French and their Indian allies. The Wabanaki Confederacy was between five Algonquian speaking people. The British and their Indian allies, the Iroquois Confederacy.
    Alliances: Previously mentioned
    Result: the Treaty of Ryswick was signed.
  • Queen Anne's War

    Queen Anne's War
    Location: New England, Acadia, Canada
    Dates: 1702-1713
    Causes: opening of Indian lands to colonization of Europeans and highly lucrative trade prospects
    People Involved and Alliances: Spanish French and Indian alliances, Wabanaki Confederacy; British and their Indian allies-- Iroquois Confederacy.
    Results: Treaty of Utrecht
  • Tuscarora War

    Tuscarora War
    Location: North Carolina, Tuscarora tribes
    Dates: 1711-1715
    Causes: land encroachment by the colonists, trade disputes and the actions of some settlers in enslaving some of the Tuscarora Indians
    People Involved: Tuscarora, Pamplico, Cothechney, Core, Mattamuskeet and the Matchepungoe tribes, British, American, Dutch, and German colonists and settlers
    Indian Allies
    Results: Victory for the settlers and colonists. A peace treaty was eventually signed in June 1718
  • King George's War

    King George's War
    Location: New York, Massachusetts bay, New Hampshire, Nova Scotia
    Dates: 1744-1748
    Cause: The need for trade. European settlers showed economic dominance, which caused upset within the Native Indians.
    People involved: The French and their Indian allies. The Wabanaki Confederacy. The British and their Indian allies. The Iroquois Confederacy.
    Allies: Previously mentioned.
    Results: The Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle ends King George's War.
  • Pontiac's War

    Pontiac's War
    Location: The Ohio River Valley region.
    Dates: 1763-1766
    Cause: The tribes involved in Pontiac's rebellion believed that the French treated them with honor and respect as opposed to the British who believed they were superior to the Indians.
    People Involved: Many native American tribes against the British.
    Alliances: Many native American tribes.
    Result: Defeat for the Indians.
