His uncle Ronnie, more like an older brother to him, uses a shotgun to commit suicide. It was Ronnie who introduced him to hip hop. His death has a profound effect on Em. -
Underground
Begins making appearances at Detroit’s St. Andrew’s Hall which is located in the back-in-the-day Hip-Hop Shop. He is the only white rapper. -
20th Birthday
On his 20th birthday, his mom accuses him of assault and battery. -
Hailie
Kim gives birth to their daughter Hailie Jade Mathers. -
Infinite
Releases debut album named Infinite but few people notice. Those who do accuse him of ripping off other artists. Those who don’t accuse him of plagiarism, and mock his little-too-late anti-Gulf War lyrics. He sells about five hundred copies from the backseat of his car. -
Nate
His mother is accused of abusing his half-brother Nathan and she loses custody of him. The juvenile court papers say that she “exhibits a very suspicious, almost paranoid personality” and one social worker accuses her of having Munchausen by proxy syndrome, a mental illness that causes a parents to harm their child in order to obtain attention. Later on in the year, she regains custody of Nate. Also, due to the lack of record sales, Marshall gets work as a cook. -
Rap Olympics
Wins second place at the Rap Olympics in Los Angeles. -
Aftermath Imprint
Signs on with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath imprint. He also realeases his second album called The Slim Shady LP during this month. Also, in March, Timothy White, a Billboard editor, uses his Music to My Ears column to slam Eminem’s lyrics. -

His own mom sues him for slander and wants ten million dollars in damages... Which is unbelieveably stupid. -

Releases third album The Marshall Mathers LP and in its first week it sells 1.76 million copies. -
Crazy year
Catches a man kissing his wife in the Royal Oak parking lot and proceeds to brawl with the man. Members of the Insane Clown Posse cheer him on. Is arrested the next dat for the altercation in the Royal Oak parking lot and is charged with gun possession and gets three years probation. Supposedly he pistol-whips the man. In July, his wife tries to commit suicide. Then, In August, files for divorce from Kim. Also in August, his mom sues him again. Finally in December, he and Kim reconcile. -

Receives four Grammy nominations for The Marshall Mathers LP. Women and gay groups protest. -
Guilty
Pleads guilty to carrying a weapon without a permit stemming back to the Royal Oak parking lot where he supposedly pistol-whipped a man for kissing his wife. -

Brain Damage
DeAngelo Bailey, the school bully who gave Eminem countless beatings, is now suing Eminem for his song “Brain Damage” because he claims it has ruined his reputation and any chance to jumpstart his own music career. In October, he says of Britney Spears and her music “I think it’s corny as hell, but whatever. I can’t knock her for doing her thing. She sucks and she can’t sing.” -
Source Magazine
At a news conference, The Source magazine plays a music cassette from 1993 that features a young Eminem singing racist slurs against black women, calling them “stupid.” The tape had been made, according to him, after he had just broken up with a black girlfriend. -
We as Americans
The United States Secret Service confirms it is looking into allegations that Eminem’s song “We as Americans” is, in actuality, a death threat aimed at President Bush. -
Micheal Jackson
After releasing the music video “Just Lose It,” a song from his upcoming album, Michael Jackson calls the Los Angeles-based Steve Harvey radio show and informs the public he is not impressed with the parodies involving his child-molestation charges, his battle with rhinoplasty, and that most importantly, the incident in 1984 when his hair caught on fire during the filming of the Pepsi commercial. -
Just Lose It
By now, thanks to Michael Jackson and some others, many stations ban the “Just Lose It” video. However, MTV doesn’t, and thanks to Michael Jackson and MTV, the video becomes the most requested video on Total Request Live. -
