Ivan the Terrible was born on August 25, 1530 in Kolomenskoye, Russia to parents Vasily III and Yelena Glinskaya. His Father was the king before him and his mother was the daughter of a Siberian princess. This is important because he went on to become one of the most important/ famous Czars in Russias history.(Andreyev 1).

On January 26, 2018 Lisbon, Portugal was hit by an earthquake. Its believed to have been caused by the Lower Tagus Fault Zone. Its important because approximately 30,000 people were killed.(revolvy.com).

Ivan IV became the Grand Prince on December 4,1533 after his father died. Not able to be king yet at the age of three he was prince until he was ready. This is significant because when he was ready in 1547 he became the most feared Russian Czar.(academic.mu.edu).

After he deemed himself ready to rule he became the ruler of Russia changing the name to Czar/Tsar on January 16,1547. Its important because during his rule there were many major events. Ivan really lived up to the name ''Terrible" during his rule.(Academic.mu.edu).

In late August of 1552 Ivan took his army of 100,000 troops took over the town of Kazan by force. In 1556 his army also took control of Astrakhan. Its significant because after he won he was given the "terrible" part to his name. It also extended Russia to the Caspian Sea and to the Ural Mountains, adding nearly 1,000,000 square kilometers to Russia.(academic.mu.edu)(Andreyev 1).

In 1552 Ivan IV won the battles of Kazan and others and was given the name Ivan the Terrible. The name terrible is suppose to mean he is an awesome leader. Its important because ironically he ended up be a terrible leader.(academic.mu.edu).

In 1560 his wife was believed to be poisoned and killed. she only left behind two heirs. This is significant because after this he started to go crazy.(Andreyev 1).

In 1561 he finished building St. Basils Cathedral. He did it to honor his win over Kazan. Its said that he blinded the builder so he couldn't build something like it again. Its important because it is still one of the worlds most famous churches.(reference.com).

In 1564 a huge graphite mine was discovered in England. It was cut into square rods. The rods were inserted into hand-carved wooden holders(pencils).Were called lead pencils by mistake. Its important because millions op people including me use a pencil everyday.(enchantedlearning.com).

In 1565 Ivan created a group of 1,000-6,000 men who would go around and kill Ivan's enemies and the traitors. in total the Oprichnina massacred over 60,000 people. This is important because this showed Ivan's absolute power as a leader in Russia.(Andreyev 1) (academic.mu.edu).

From 1566-1585 the Dutch led a revolt against Spain. Was the result of long-simmering tensions over economic and religious issues. Its important because it then became the Netherlands which became a wealthy and powerful empire, rivaling other nations of Europe.(classroom.synonym.com).

Only made in Catholic areas which recognize the authority of the Pope. Desire to get the date of Easter correct which inspired them to recalculate the correct length of the year , and make amore accurate calendar. Its important because this changed the calendar forever.(skepticism.org).

On July 7, 1582 there was a battle between Toyotomi Hideyoshi (around 30,000 troops ) and Akechi Mitsuhide (around 12,000 troops). After awhile panic set in among the Mitsuhide army, and Hideyoshi's army chased them back to Shōryūji. Mitsuhide himself fled much further where he was captured and killed.Its importanat because Hideyoshi used it to gain control over Nobunaga's former territories and eventually all of Japan. On November 19, 1582 his pregnant daughter-in-law Elena was poorly dressed so Ivan attacked and caused her to miscarry. His son Ivan Ivanovich tried to defend her, where Ivan killed him presumably by accident. It is important because that was his only possible respectable heir and him dying led to there being no real leader until Peter I.(academic.mu.edu).

On March 28, 1584 Ivan died of an apparent stroke. He left his kingdom to his unfit son Feodor. This is significant because him dying led to the times of troubles in Russia.(Biography.com).
