Diana Frances Spencer, known as Princess Diana of Wales, was born in Sandringham, England on 1 July 1961, the daughter of John Spencer, 8th Earl of Spencer and Frances Ruth Burke Roche. -

His early years were spent in the family home at Sandringham, where he received his early education. -
In 1968, Diana became a ward of her parents' divorce and entered King's Lynn School. -
In 1970 she was taken to Riddlesworth Hall girls' boarding school. -
In 1973 he entered West Heath, another boarding school in the county of Kent. -
By 1975, after her father inherited the title of Earl Spencer she was known as Lady Diana Spencer. -
In November 1977 she met Prince Charles of Wales, the first-born son of Queen Elizabeth II of England and heir to the British throne, with whom she became romantically involved two years later. -
On 24 February 1981, the spokesman for Buckingham Palace revealed the official engagement of Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles of Wales; from then on, Diana moved to Clarence House, the Queen Mother's residence. -
The wedding took place on 29 July 1981 at St Paul's Cathedral, London, officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury. -
On 21 June 1982, Diana's first child, William, was born. -
On 15 September 1984, their second son Harry was born. -
On 28 August 1996, Diana officially separated from her husband, becoming the only non-royal princess in the history of the United Kingdom; she was able to maintain her residence at Kensington Palace in order to maintain good relations with the British Royal Family for the sake of her two children. -
The Princess was honoured in her lifetime for her humanitarian work. One of the most moving posthumous tributes was the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize for the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, her initiative. -
On 12 January 1997, Lady Di embarked on one of her most important journeys, travelling to Angola at the invitation of the British Red Cross to show her support for the elimination of anti-personnel landmines in Africa. -
Princess Diana of Wales died in a car accident inside the Tunnel de l'Alma, on the north bank of the Seine River in Paris, France on 31 August 1997 at the age of 36. She was also killed along with her partner Dodi Al-Fayed and the driver of the car, Henri Paul.
