Ruby Bridges goes to school
At six years old, Ruby was given a hard test to see if she could be moved to a white school. She passed and she was sent to William Frantz Elementary School. On her first day, there were protesters, and the president had to send U.S Marshals to protect Ruby and her mom. The only person left was a teacher named Barbara Henry, who taught Ruby all her subjects. Ruby’s bravery had an impact on African American children all around the U.S. -

Nigeria becomes a federal Republic 3 years after independence. President Nnamdi Azikwe was in rule, but Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa held more power. -
The end of Jim Crow laws
The Jim Crow laws were a set of laws against the equality with African Americans. They segregated the white people from black, but favored white people. Of course, this caused some uproar, which led the Civil Rights Movement. Over 240,000 African Americans marched together against the unfair treatment, in hopes of having an effect on the laws. In 1964, their wish was granted. After over a century of enduring the discrimination, and African Americans were allowed the same rights as white people. -
1969 Moon Landing
The famous Moon Landing was a memorial event in U.S history, and the history of the world. It was the first time humankind has ever gone outside the protection Earth. It also was the first time someone has stepped foot on the Moon. The event was broadcasted on every TV in the world from Neil Armstrong’s camera. Along with fellow astronauts, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, Neil Armstrong made history, reciting the famous line, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” -
Nigeria wins the 1996 Summer Olympics Football Tournament
Nigeria brought home the golden trophy home after facing a lot of countries and close goals in Atlanta. They faced Kenya, Egypt, and Zimbabwe in the Men’s African Qualification,and emerging qualified along with Tunisia and Ghana, then going on to face Hungary, Brazil and Japan. In the final match for gold, they fought a tense battle against Argentina, but ended up winning 3-2. -
The US hosts 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia
The US was the host for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. This event started from July 19 - August 14, 1996. As Atlanta starts preparing, the city of Atlanta started to change. More sports venues were being built, house patterns being changed, etc. It was the biggest event in the history of Atlanta. -
Dame Virginia Ngozi Etiaba
Dame Virginia Ngozi Etiaba was the first female Nigerian governor. She was sworn into office on November 3, 2006 after the former governor, Peter Obi, was impeached by the state house of assembly. While she was in office, she improved the state of Anambra, but her most memorable mark was the fact that she ceased the activity of ‘Suba Kwa Igbo’, which was an attempt to stop the use of the Igbo language and culture. -
Dr. Stella Adadevoh
Dr. Stella Adadevoh was a Nigerian physician and endocrinologist. She halted a major Ebola outbreak in Nigeria, one of Africa's most populous cities in 2014. She stopped and diagnosed an ECOWAS official, Patrick Sawyer, who was on the way to a meeting, with Ebola. The ECOWA sent threats, like suing her for ‘kidnapping and violation of his human rights’. Turns out she was right, and Mr. Sawyer died in FCMC. Sadly, the disease took Dr. Stella’s life, along with 4 other healthcare workers. -
U.S and Cuba return to regular diplomatic relations
After the Cold War, the diplomatic relations between Cuba and the US was very difficult. And in 2015 US and Cuba return to regular diplomatic relations. President Obama made this decision after winning the re-election. This decision is politically unthinkable. -
Nigeria 2015 Elections
The 2015 election was the election is the 4th quadrennium election since military rule ended. This election was held from 28 March to 29 March. The main two parties that were mostly pointed out were Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (PDP) and Muhammadu Buhari (APC). After two days of this election, the winner was finally confirmed to be Muhammadu Buhari (APC). APC beat PDP who has been in power up from 1999 to 2015.
