An extremely prejudice restriction on free immigration that prohibited immigration of Chinese laborers. Congress intended to try to keep America's identity 'clean' as too many different people were flooding in. -

Local areas of THe Knights of Labor went on strike demaned an equal 8 hour day for all workers. On the 4th, someone threw a bomb into the crowd and caused several injuries. -
Dawes Act

This act authorized the U.S. to divide Indian tribal land and divide it into allotments for individual Indians. If they agree to this, they would be granted U.S. citizenship. Natives were offered tribal land (Note that natives were offered their own land, which is sad.) which could not be sold for 25 years. -
Homestead Act

Due to the increasing demand to expand, the U.S. Government opened land unassigned to particular tribe members for homesteaders. The land was supposedly was open to claim under the Homestead Act. As people rushed in, the Indians were shot or forced out, once again. -

Although no certain conclusion was reaches about exactly who bombed the Maine, Americans concluded it was done by Spain, and demaned war. -
Spanish-American War

Americans were angry by anti-Spanish propaganda which used yellow journalism to criticize Spanish administration of Cuba.
This was the result of American intervention in the Cuban War of Independence. Both sides were unprepared for war, but Spain was worse off.
After the war ended, the U.S. gained temporary control of Cuba (Treaty of Paris) and caused major changes to The Spanish Empire. -
The Wobblies

Even more radical than the Socialists. This union encouraged members to fight directly against their employers and believed that compromise was not an option. They lead hundreds of strikes across America and called for the overthrow of the capitalist system.
They promoted the concept of all workers being united under a single social class and have their own model of workplace democracy, in which workers elect their managers. -

The invention of the Automobile assembly line was a huge success. These vehicles were now available in masses to the public. In addition to providing more mobility, thousands of Americans found jobs. Furthermore, high schools could make use of this technology which increased education time. Schools developed greatly from this and also helped to form the "teenager" mindset. -
Selective Service Act

The US was in dire need of more people to participate in the war, as volunteers simply were not high enough in numbers, reaching only about 400,000. Due to this, the government decided to pass this Act that required all young men to register for the war. With this, the US could have enough participants it needed. -

This ended the war between Germany and the Allied Powers.
Woodrow Wilson and his 14 points were ignored by European powers, especially France, who wanted much harsher punishment for Germany. I would like to point out, that, despite the very harsh punishments on Germany that were set in place, they have recovered and they are essentially 'carrying' Europe now, in terms of economic strength, I believe, during this crisis. -

Women were finally granted suffrage. With this amendment, all US citizens have the right to vote. Regardless of this, many women wanted to have fun, but at least they now had the rite to vote. -

The Roaring 20's came to a screeching halt as the market crashed. The US economy was sent towards a downards spiral that affected probably every single American life as opportunities became scarce. -

Lasted 6 years and 1 day long. Part of it was due to unresololved conflits from WWI. It was a fight between the Allies and the Axis powers.Millions on millions of people died in many well-known events around this time, and 400,000 Americans died- almost as many as in the Civil War. -

Court ruled that the Constitution follows a right to privacy. Therefore, it was ruled that the prohibition of drug use for the sole purpose of preventing conception was a violation of privacy and therefore unconstitutional. -

This drew the line between pro-life supporters and pro-choice supporters in the case of abortion. This ruling extended a woman's decision to have an abortion, but the idea of protection potential life and the mother's health has been taken into account. -

However, it made way for the Macintosh XL to be released, and of course, many future releases of computers which indeed revolutionized everything, as people found it much easier to perform many, many tasks. (Ran out of space...) -

With the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States would be the remaining military superpower. With this, people look to the US to ease conflicts in many areas.
