The Treaty of Paris took place in February of 1763 and followed a defeat of the French in which they gave up their lands east of the Mississippi River to the English and gave Louisiana to Spain. -
Pontiac's Rebellion
This rebellion began in the spring of 1763, as an effort of the Native Americans to weaken the English and bring back the French. During this rebellion members of Native american groups that had been severely effected by the war attacked and captured many of the English forts in the Ohio River Valley and near the Great Lakes. -
The Stamp Act Is Passed
The Stamp Act was meant to raise money from the colonies to pay the debt from the French and Indian War. The Stamp Act would have made colonists pay a tax on almost all printed materials and was a source of tension and protest in the colonies until it was repealed the next year. -
The Boston Massacre
At night during the March of 1770, some Patriots began to harass British soldiers guarding the Customs House. The nervous soldiers fired into the crowd, killing five, and angering most of Boston. -
The Boston Tea Party
The night of December 16, 1773, many patriots in Boston got together and dumped tea from the East India Company into the Boston Harbor. This enraged Parliament so much that they passed the Coercive Acts to punish Boston. One example of these acts is that Parliament shut down Boston Harbor until its inhabitants paid for the tea that was destroyed.
