The French and Indian War also known as the Seven Years' War because it lasted a total of seven whole years. This war was between the British and the French. -
Proclamation of 1763
Violent incidents such as Pontiac's Rebellion prompted the English crown to attempt to mandate an end to encroachments on territory promised to the Indians. -
Pontiac's Rebellion
The British General Jeffery Amherst gave the Native Americans blankets that were infested in smallpox. -
The Sugar Act
The fact that they didn't have to pay taxes, but now that the taxes are enforced the colonists have to pay. Also, the reduced the rate of tax on molasses from six pence to three pence per gallon. -
The Currency Act
The Currency Act prohibited the issue of any new bills and the reissue of existing currency and Parliament favored a "hard currency" system based on the pound sterling. -
The Stamp Act
This act was Parliaments first serious attempt to assert government authority over the colonies. Also, it imposed a tax on all paper documents in the colonies. -
The Quartering Act
This act forced colonists to house British soldiers in their homes. Also, required the colonists to provide barracks and supplies to troops. (Indirect tax for the colonists) -
The Virginia Stamp Act Resolutions
Patrick Henry undertook a radical move against the authority of Parliament. Also, the Burgesses had long operated under a relaxed rule that allowed 24 percent of the body to constitute a quorum. -
The Stamp Act Congress
This act was meant to make the Americans pay bigger/more direct taxes, which would leave the British with lesser treasures and greater debts. Also, Patrick Henry said, "No taxation without Representation!" -
The Declaratory Act
This act was for the better securing of the better dependency of dominions in America upon the crown and parliament of Great Britian. -
The Townshend Revenue Act
Taxes on glass, paint, oil, lead, paper, and tea. This act was for granting certain duties in the British colonies and plantations in America. -
Boston Non-Importation Agreement
This agreement was about the merchants and traders in the town of Boston having taken the deplorable situation of the trade. In the photo is page 4 of the Boston Non-Importation Agreement. -
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a street fight between a "patriot" mob, throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks, and a squad of British soldiers. Also, several colonists were killed. -
The Gaspee Affair
The Sons of Liberty were very active throughout the colonies. As well as the British officers being charged with enforcing the customs laws. Also, the Stamp Act was becoming aggressive. -
The Tea Act
The Tea Act was to launch the final spark to the revolutionary movement in Boston, but the act was not intended to raise revenue in the American colonies. -
The Boston Tea Party
Parliament reduced the duty the colonies would have to pay for the imported tea, which also meant now that the Americans will get their tea cheaper than they usually did. -
The Edenton Tea Party
The Edenton Tea Party was one of the earliest organized women’s political actions. They all formed alliance also supporting the American cause against “taxation without representation." -
The Intolerable Acts
These acts basically helped cause the American Revolution. -
Boston Port Act
The Boston Port Act was one of the Coercive Acts that Parliament passed in an effort to regain control of unruly Massachusetts also, the landing and discharging, lading or shipping, of goods, wares, and merchandise, at the town, and within the harbour of Boston. -
Massachusetts Government Act
Te Massachusetts Government act was for the better regulating the government of the province of the Massachuset's Bay, in New England. -
Quartering Act of 1774
Troops can be quartered otherwise than in barracks, in case barracks have been provided sufficient for the quartering of all the officers and soldiers within any town. -
Quebec Act
The Quebec Act was a well-intentioned measure designed to afford greater rights to the French inhabitants of Canada. Also, had become a British rule through the Treaty of Paris. -
The First Continental Congress
They met in Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia. Carpenter's Hall was also the seat of the Pennsylvania Congress. All of the colonies except for Georgia sent delegates. -
Administration of Justice Act
This act was for impartial administration of justice in the cases of persons questioned for any acts done by them in the execution of the law.
