Thomas Jefferson had a form of government he implemented called Jeffersonian Democracy that idolized the idea of farming and people being independent. It gave power back to the people and during his presidency the 'Era of Good Feelings' was thriving due to the one political party. -
Louisiana Purchased
The Louisiana purchase was an offer given by Napoleon, who owned most of America at the time. When we needed Louisiana to keep our goods from entering another country as we shipped them down the river, we bought this but also got most of the country for very little. -

This war happened because the British still wanted to control America despite our efforts to take our independence by force. This war proved that America could defend herself. -
McCulloh v. Maryland
This was a case brought to the Supreme Court because the state of Maryland was trying to tax money from banks that were not in its state. They voted not to allow Maryland to tax the bank. -
Missouri Compromise
This was when Missouri wanted to be a slave-state but that would throw off the balance of slave and free states. So as a compromise the government gave Missouri what they wanted but also admitted Maine as a free-state. -

She made a huge difference as the first lady by writing her thoughts on political matters that women weren't allowed to be apart of and she was also a big role in the Women's rights activism. -
Andrew Jackson Elected
Jackson had a form of government called Jacksonian democracy that made the executive branch more powerful. He gave power to the people in a sense of their choice and his authority. He was known for treating the Native Americans with disgust. -
The Liborator Begins Publication
This was a white abolitionist, William Lloyd Garrison's, paper that highlighted the issue of slavery and was successful in getting white people's attention that slavery is wrong and that something needed to be done about it. -
Nullification Crisis
This happened in response to the Tariff of Abominations that helped the North gain more money from British exports but also lessened the need for cotton and such from the South. As a result, the South thought it fair to nullify any law that a certain state didn't agree with. -
Tocqueville Publishes "Democracy in America."
This is a book published by a French guy who came to America to see how we were doing. This book contained his observations and views on our progress. -
Emerson Publishes "Self-Reliance."
"Self-Reliance" was written by transcendentalist thinker, Ralph Emerson, about how humans should be individuals themselves and not conform to a corrupt society. -
Dorothea Dix visits her first jail with insane inmates
Dix visited the East Cambridge jail to find that mentally ill or insane inmates were given poor treatment and living conditions. -
Fredrick Douglas Publishes his Biography
Fredrick Douglas was among few escaped slaves who could write. So after he was free he wrote his biography on his experiences as a slave. -
Frederick Douglas publishes his autobiography
FD was an escaped slave whom was educated so he wrote of his experiences and had his life changing story published. -
Senca Falls Convention
This was the first large group of women who met at one place to fight for their rights and to highlight their place in society. -
Fugitive Slave Act
This was a ruling that gave Southern slave owners the right to cross over into Northern territory to retrieve their escaped slaves. This new ruling was often taken advantage of by bounty hunters wanting to make a quick buck off of the slaves they brought back. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin Published
This was a fictional book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe that described real life event in a slaves life and the struggle they had trying to escape. -
Thoreau Publishes "Walden"
"Walden" contain's Thoreau's two year experience of simple living in a cabin he built next to a lake in Massachusetts. -
Whitman Publishes "Leaves of Grass," (1st Edition).
"Leaves of Grass," is a poem written by Walt Whitman that describes his views on women and men including their bodies, personalities, and how important both genders were. He was a person who viewed men and women as equal importance. -
Dred Scott Decision
Scott was a slave who's owner went through Northern territory and didn't let Scott go. So Scott became the first slave to take his owner to court over the issue. They eventually ruled in favor of the slave owner that slaves can't take people to court. -
John Brown Attacks Harper's Ferry
This was a white northerner who thought he was God's "Sword of Vengeance" against slave owners. His idea was to rally his kin to invade Harper's Ferry, get guns, and have the slaves join his side. This ended in the U.S. army cornering his and then killing him. -
Abraham Lincolin Elected
This was one of the Forefathers of our country who fought against slavery and helped greatly in the war for freedom. -
Civil War Begins
This began with the battle of Fort Sumter as the "shot heard around the world," marking the start of the American Revolution.
