1948 War
May 15th, 1948- March 10th, 1949 Israel declared independence. Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq attacked Israel. The Outcome is Israel gained land. Egypt gained the Gaza Strip and Jordan gained the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Jews became refugees. -
Six Day War or 1967 War
June 5th, 1967- June 10th, 1967. Egypt blockaded Israel. Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iraq moved troops to Israel's borders and made threatening statements. Israel launched a preemptive strike. The outcome is Israel captured the West bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golden Heights from Syria and the Gaza Strip and all of the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt. More Palestinians and Jews became refugees. Terrorism became more common. -
Settlement Construction Begins
June 1967- current. Israeli government approved settlements in Sinai, Gaza, and the West Bank. There were security out post to prevent attacks. The outcome is settlement construction incensed, and it made Palestinians travel more difficult. This is now an issue that Israelis and Palestinians negotiate. -
Attrition Battles
July 1st, 1967- August 7, 1970. Israel maintain Jerusalem as a unified city with religious access. The religious access was for peace. Egypt launched small attacks against Israel. The PLO also attacked Israel ad there was airplane hijackings. The outcome is that Israel gained lad from Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Arabs nations met ad declare there unwillingness to make peace. The PLO was evicted from the state of Jordan. -
The October War or Yom Kippur War
October 6th, 1973- October 26, 1973. Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on Yom Kippur. It was an Arabian military success. The outcome is that the Israelis managed to push back the attack and Israel retained the territories from 1967. This led to the U.S. convincing Israeli's to withdraw from its territories . This made the importance of the buffer zones greater. -
Egypt and Israel Sign a Peace Agreement.
Egypt became the first Arab country to recognize Israel as a country. Egypt saw that it was hurting its economy fighting against Israel, so they singed a peace treaty with Israel. The outcome is that Israel returned to Egypt all of the Sinai that had been captured. This treaty became an example for Israeli's land for peace policy. -
The 1982 Lebanon War
June 6th, 1982- September 14, 1983. PLO attacked parts of northern Israel. In returned Israel attacked PLO military in Lebanon. The outcome is that Israelis went into a Lebanon civil war. Israelis withdrew from Lebanon. There was a buffer zone created. There was also terrorist attacked, from Southern Lebanon. This led to a second Lebanon War. -
The First Intifada
December 8, 1987- September 13, 1993. Palestinians engages in an uprising in the Gaza strip and the west Bank. Palestinians attacked Israel, supported by the PLO. The Israeli military fought back. The outcome is that there was a lot of Palestinians deaths. This fighting lasted in the country until the Oslo records were signed. -
The Oslo Accords
It is a set of agreements that began in 1993 when Israelis and the PLO signed a declaration of principles. This was an inter agreement. The outcome is this led to create of the Palestinen Authority which was too too govern its territories. Israli withdrew from the Gaza Strip. Mutual recognition between Israel and the PLO. PLO finally recognized Israel as a country. -
Israel and Jordan sign a Peace Treaty
As like the Peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, the U.S. led a success peace treaty between Jordan and Israel. The outcome is that trade, tourist, exchange, scientific cooperation was gained between Jordan and Israel. -
The Camp David Summit
July 11, 2000- July 25, 2000. Bill Clinton (U.S. President) brought Ehud Barak (Israel Prime Minister) and Yasser Arafat (Palestinian President) to Camp David. This was the first step for an agreement between Israel and Palestine. The outcome is that there was a failure in the agreement. Instead further conflict was ensued. -
The Second Intifada
September 28, 2000- ongoing. Israeli General Ariel Shara visited the Jewish Temple mount. There was a lack in progress for Peace. The outcome is the visit began the Second Intifada. There was great bloodshed on both sides. This as been going on, still no peace. -
Arab Peace Initiative is Proposed
Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia proposed a peace initiative and was endorsed by the Arab League. Offers peace to Israel in return, when Israel withdrew from its territories. The outcome is that Israel accepted the proposal, but does not accept all of the demands. Israeli met with the Arab League to discuss this. The Arab League sent a delegation to Israel. -
Israel Begins Constructing the West Bank Barrier
June 23, 2002- ongoing. Israeli builds a security wall to separate citizens from terrorist groups from the West Bank. The outcome is that it reduced the number of suicide bombings, and the overall act of terrorism. -
The Roadmap for Peace is Proposed
It is a plan for peace proposed by the U.S., Russia, the European Union, and the United Nations. There are steps for the Israelis and Palestinians. The ultimate goal is an independent Palestine and a secure Israel. The outcome is that the progress stopped when the first election of Palestine and Hamas of Palish was elected. Again Mahmoud Abbas made the goal possible again by dissolving the Hamas government. There as not been any progress since. -
Israel Disengages from Gaza
Prime minister Ariel Sharah moved ahead with the disengagement of the Israel from Palestinian territories. Israel should withdraw from Gaza. The outcome is Israel removed it self from the territories. Since the withdraw of the Gaza, the rocket fires have increased into Israel. -
Hamas is Elected
Palestine elected Hamas for the legislation rather than the PLO. The outcome is that Hamas claimed it did the terrorist attacks. Western aid suspended to the Palestine authority. It will be lifted once Hamas recognize Israel -
The 2006 Lebanon War
July 12, 2006- August 14, 2006. Hezbollah committed to destroying Israel. It crossed the boarders and launched attacks on Israeli military. It launched rockets into Israeli towns and cities. Israel launched air strikes back at Hezbollah. The outcome is that a lot of civilian lives were lost. Israel damaged Lebanon's transportation infrastructure. The United Nations ceased fire. -
The Battle of Gaza
June 10, 2007- June 15, 2007. Great tension between Hamas and PLO Fatah. Hamas attacked PLO members of Gaza. The outcome is that President Mahoumd dissolved the Hamas government. Hamas now controls Gaza. Palestinian Authority controls the West Bank. Western sanctions of the Palestinian Authority were lifted when the Hamas government was dissolved. -
The Gaza War
December 27, 2008- January 18, 2009. Israeli attacked Hamas in Gaza to stop rockets on southern Israel and disrupt terrorist and weapons smugglers. The outcome is hundreds of military personal were killed. There were a lot of civilian casualties. Gaza's buildings and the country's economy was damaged. -
Gaza Flotilla Incident
Israelis and Egypt began a blockade of Gaza. All goods must be inspected. Turkish ships were told to go to another port, but they refused and the people on board were killed and the Israeli army took over. The outcome is that Turkey demands an apology from Israel. Now Turkey and Israel have tension between them, where before they were allies. -
The Arab Spring
December 18, 2010- ongoing. Arab States began to protest against autocratic oppression government. The Arab Spring protest spread thru Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Syria, Yemen. The outcome was Tunisia president resigned and the Egyptian president also resigned. It is not clear that there is peace.
