Christopher Columbus's Friend Prince Henry Dies

Christopher was friends with Prince Henry. He was a Navigator. Prince Henry was the son of the king and queen of portugal. They were both mapmakers and geographers. Christopher Columbus First Sea Battle

May 1, 1476

At 24 Christopher boarded the Bechalla. They past a ship with Guillaume de Casenove, a famous french pirate. Other ship surrounded them. The pirates fought all day. Seven ships sank, inclueding four pirate ships and the Bechalla. Hundreds of men died. Christopher dove into the water and grabed a long oar. He floated on the oar to the shore of Laso, Portugal.

Married Dona Felipa Pestrello e Moniz

He married his first wife while attending church in Lisbon. Her father was one of the explorers who discovered the Madeira Islands. Also he navigation with Prince Henry.

A seamen Robert de Triana on the pinta saw land. "Tierra! Tieria!" he yelled "Land! Land!" It was 2 hour past midnight when he saw land. A cannon was fired to alert the other ships. All the men shouted and sang. The native he met were quiet and gentle. Some were naked. Also the didn`t have any weapons..

The Santa Maria Sinks

The Santa Maria gets caught on a reef of the coast of a island. The Indians helpd Christopher Columbus unload the ship. with the wood they saved they built a fort. Fourty men stayed to search for gold.

The Nina and the Pinta Arrived in spain

Both of the ship arrived safely in Palos, Spain. After in the second week of Febuary there was strong winds, rain, and lightning. The boats were thrown all aroud the water. Columbus was afraid the ships would be lost. He saw King Ferdinnand and Queen Isabella. They had great honor in him. They even ask him to sit with them.

Set Sail Again to the New World

He set sail again but this time with his brother Deigo. There were seventeen ships and about twelve hundred men. The object of this voyage was to settle Hispaniola. Farmer also went on the voyage. Ther were six priest that planed to convert the Indians.

They Reached Islands in the Caribbean Sea

On the islands they tasted pineaple for the first time. Also they found evidence of a Indian tribe who ate human flesh.

Columbus Came to Hispaniola

A cannon was fired to annouce arrival. All fourty men that were there tem months before were dead. The Indians had killed them and burned the fort.

Columbus Returned to Spain

He brought along some Indians wearing fancy feather headdresses and gold jewelry. He gave King Ferdinamd and Queen Isabella some gold nuggets.

Columbus began his third voyage

May 30, 1498

He took six ships with him from spain. Three ships left the Canary Islands for Hispaniola. Columbus sailed with three other ships farther south and then west. It was a difficult journey.

Troubles in Settlement

His brother Bartholomew told Columbus that there were troubles in the settlement in Hispaniola. Many settlers were sick and there had been fights with the Indians.

Sailed to the New World for the Fourth Time

May 9, 1502

He sailed with a crew of mostly inexperienced sailor in four old ships. His brother Bartholomew and his son Ferdinand sailed with him. They searched for a water way in the Indian Ocean. Columbus stopped off at Martinique and then sailed towards Hispaniola. The govener of Hispaniola didn't alow Columbus to come back. He sailed along the Caribbean coast of Central America for a year.
