Paul Robeson was born on April 9th, 1898. He excelled in academics at school and was offered a scholarship into Rutgers University. There he got married to another student and they would later have their own son. He would work as a lawyer for a little bit. He then went on to perform in multiple shows. Using the international fame he had he would regularly speak out against racism. This affected his personal life as it would help stop racism. -

Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was born on Feb 4th, 1913 and was one of the main starts to the Civil Rights Movement when she refused to give up her seat on a bus. This would spark a movement that would help to end segregation, a lot of racism, and give many African Americans the ability to play sports and go to college. This would help her personally by ending segregation and the rules of the bus allowing her to sit wherever she pleases. It would allow future generations a bright future. -

He was born on Feb 21, 1940 and was born during racial segregation. He would grow up and become a Freedom Rider. He also spoke at the March on Washington and led the demonstration that would become known as Bloody Sunday. He was also elected to congress in 1986 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He also would become one of the Big Six and would help to plan things against segregation. This all helped him in his personal life as he was allowed to be in politics, giving him a voice. -
Brown Vs. Board of Education
Brown VS. Board of Education was about desegregation on the kids at schools. Because it was crazy at the start to even be separated because the color of your skin. So, this was a march on how this should be desegregated. This was important because it is not ok for kids at school to be separated for how they look. They need to be together to learn from each other and help one another out. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
The Montgomery bus boycott was about seating with your own race and Rosa Parks was a big influence on this because one day she was asked to move from her seat because of her race and she stood up for herself by saying "no, I'm not moving because I look different from you". She was later arrested and fined for not sitting where she was told. This event was important because after this, African Americans stood up for themselves and soon got to sit where they wanted too. -
Albany Movement
The Albany Movement was a desegregation campaign that happened on November 17, 1961. This movement challenged all forms of racial segregation and later Martin Luther King Jr got involved in this and joined this movement. This was important because when the African Americans wanted to free the people who did nothing but not want desegregation, they just wanted to be fair again and nothing wrong. -
Birmingham Campaign
This was a movement where the Southern Christian Leadership Community went and sought to bring attention to how bad segregation is and how they need to change it and how bad it is doing to our country. This campaign was led by Martin Luther King Jr. This was important because, MLK described this all as the KKK stronghold, and Americas worst city for racism, and this was to help prevent all the racism happening and wanted it to all stop. -

The "I have a dream" speech was a speech delivered by American Civil Rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. During the march on Washington for jobs and freedom. This was important because he wanted all people to be free from racism and from everything bad and he wanted us to come together as one as a country. -

The march on Washington was about how people wanted to go to watch MLK speech and so that hoping they would get more jobs and less racial things happening and people would protest saying how segregation is terrible and it needs to be stopped. This was important because over a quarter of a million African Americans marched to stop racism and have equal rights. -

Civil Rights Act of 1964
The Civil Rights Act of 1962 was about how segregation ended in public places and banned employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin, is considered one of the crowning legislative achievements of the civil rights movement. This is important because many Americans were now happy that this ended all racial things happening to one another. -
Chicago Freedom Movement
The Chicago Freedom Movement, led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., James Bevel, was created to challenge systematic racial segregation and discrimination in Chicago and its suburbs. The movement which included rallies, protest marches, boycotts, and other forms of non-violent direct action addressed a variety of issues facing black Chicago residents, including segregated housing, educational deficiencies, income, employment, and health disparities based on racism and black community development. -
Chicago Freedom Movement
The Chicago Freedom Movement, the most ambitious civil rights campaign in the northern United States, lasted from mid-1965 to early 1967 and is credited with inspiring the Fair Housing Act passed by the U.S. Congress in 1968. This was important because many people wanted segregation to end and so we needed a big leader to do so and MLK was it. -
Poor Peoples Campaign
The Poor People's Campaign, or Poor People's March on Washington, was a 1968 effort to gain economic justice for poor people in the United States. It was organized by Martin Luther King Jr. The campaign demanded economic and human rights for poor Americans of diverse backgrounds. The poor people's campaign introduced new strategies for protest and social change. The movement also helped transform national discussions on race, class, economic opportunities, security, and democracy. -

One of Americas biggest magazine companies finally made a magazine about women. Edward Lewis was the man who decided to put an African American woman as the cover of their magazine and now it was all over with this because no women got treated well back then and this was a change in society. -
Kenneth Gibson is elected the first black mayor of New Jersey
Kenneth Gibson was running to be the first African American mayor of New Jersey ever. This was very powerful of him to do because this was just after or the late days of the civil rights where people like him got treated very poorly and for him to do this was very bold of him and very good to do. -
Dr. Clifton WHARTON JR. Is appointed president of MIchigan State University
Wharton was elected the president of Michigan State University there by calling him the first African American president at Michigan State University or any major U.S University. -
Leryo Paige is included into the baseball hall of fame in cooperstown New York. He is the first former negro league player to be inducted.
Leryo Paige was a very talented baseball player who was African American who got treated very poorly because just like Jackie Robinson he was treated the same because people didn't think he belonged there because of how he looked like and people like leroy were just trying to play the game. He was very inspiring. -
Beverly Johnson was the first African American wpmen to feature on the cover of Glamour.
Beverly Johnson was the first African American to feature on a cover of Vogue magazine and it took about eight decades for someone like her an African American woman to finally get the feature to be known as the first to ever be put on a vogue magazine. This was very inspiring to many African American females out there to do their best and fulfill their dreams. -
Wilt Chamberlin is the firat African American NBA player to score more than 30,000 points in his carrer.
Wilt Chamberlin was one of many very inspiring basketball players who changes the game forever. He played the game of basketball very well to a point where in one game no one could stop him, he was so dominant where he scored almost all their teams points and he ended off the game with 100 points. He is very inspiring to African Americans to play basketball with a passion of getting better and playing as a team and to reach their dreams of playing in the NBA. -
Bloody Sunday
Bloody Sunday was a big massacre on January 30th, 1972 in northern Ireland. When a ton of soldiers shot many innocent people and killed just about 13 of them for just protesting and marching by themselves. This was important because this outlawed discriminatory voting laws that had kept black people off the voting rolls and provided for federal examiners to oversee voter registration in areas where voting rights were endangered. -

Barbara Jordan and Andrew Young Become The First African American Congressional Representatives From The South Sense 1898
Both of them were important figures in the Civil Rights Movement and helped to bring change to America. They eventually afterward became the first African Americans to become representatives for Texas. This would help to change lives of African Americans by showing that they can do anything they put their minds too. Also allows them to have a say and protect their community from unfairness and unequality. -

Thomas Bradley is elected the first African American mayor of Los Angeles, he worked his butt off to get to the point where he was standing on the day he got elected in. He worked very hard through the rough days of the civil rights movement and had a passion to be a mayor. He was very inspiring to many African Americans on how they can become whatever they want to be with enough hard work and dedication if they set their mind to it. -
Civil right activists Marian Wright Edleman establishes the children's defense fund as a voice for poor minorities.
He worked as a Civil Rights Activist and helped to bring change to America in that sense and also helped to bring change in another area. He helped become a voice for Poor Minorities and Children in those Minorities. He provided them a voice to help them through their struggles. -
Henry (Hank) Aaron hits his 715th home run for the atlanta braves, breaking babe ruths legendary record makes him the all-time leader in home runs in the major league baseball.
Henry (Hank) Aaron was a very talented baseball player who had a huge passion for the game of baseball. He worked harder than any other player who he faced up against. Soon after he made it into the major leagues, he hit so many home runs that he hit his 715th home run to pass up babe ruth in the all time home runs. He was very inspiring on many African Americans on how they can play they game. -
