During the confederate days black people struggled to live a good life. They had to beg for food, spin the cotton to make clothes for themselves. There food had to last for three days until they make another meal. It was really bad for African Americans back then

During the civil war the yankee would take over peoples homes during the war. People desicribed this as the cruelest war they ever had.

During the civil war and reconstruction time the North and the South were struggling socially, ecnomically, and politically. Another thing is that the North was also trying to stop or tried to limit slavery. In the text it says “peculiar institution, more than any other single thing, separated the South from the North."

Most of the war took place on sourthen soil. Basically all the south could do was just survive. It states "As an agricultural region the south had more difficulty than the north manufacturing needed goods for both its soldiers and civilians.”

This was talking about how the free slaves lived after the Emancipation Proclamation. Most of them did not have any education or money. In the text it says "For its part, the federal government established the Freedmen's Bureau, a temporary agency, to provide food, clothing, and medical care to refugees in the South."

It was difficult for the freedmen to get a job because they did not really go to school often and din't know how to read or right. Another thing is that they did not have a lot of money to help them to get materials for their school.

They made the American equal rights association because they needed to protect their rights. According to this document " secure Equal Rights to all American citizens, especially the Right of Suffrage, irrespective of race, color or sex."

I think this era was very important because alot changes happened during that time. Black people were free from slavery and were allowed to have citizenship. This is the time where Abarham Lincoln was assasinated in the office. If those important things didnt happen back then we wouldnt be living the same
