Due to the low salaries, workers at Birling and Company decided to go on strike. They wanted the rates raised from twenty-two and six to twenty-five shillings a week. -

After losing her newfound job at Milwards, Eva needed a fresh start. As though trying to leave behind her bad luck along with her identity, she changed her name to Daisy Renton. -
"Daisy" met Gerald Croft
One night Gerald walked into the stalls bar at the Palace music hall and saw Eva cornered by Joe Meggarty, a notorious womanizer in Brumley. Gerald stepped in to save her from that awkward situation and left with her to the County Hotel for a few drinks. They enganged in converstaion and, upon learning that the young woman was broke and hungry, he ordered her some food. -
"Daisy" and Gerald began a love affair
When Gerald discovered that Eva was about to be evicted from the back room she was renting, he insisted she moved into one of the rooms at Morgan Palace he was keeping an eye on for a friend who had gone off to Canada for six months. He also made her take some money to keep her going. -
Gerald broke up with "Daisy"
Gerald had to leave for a few weeks on business and decided to break it off definitely with Eva before leaving. Eva had clearly fallen in love with Gerald, but he didn't feel the same way about her. Yet she handled things gracefully and agreed to move out. Gerald gave her a parting gift of enough money to see her through to the end of the year. They never saw each other again. -
Eric Birling met Eva
Eric met Eva one night at the Palace music hall bar. He bought her a few drinks and they went back to her lodgings that night. -
Eva and Eric began an affair
Eric and Eva met again at the Palace bar and, after a few drinks, they went back to her residence. They began to meet frecuently until one day Eva told him she thought she was pregnant -and she was right. As though trying to protect him from the consequences of his own foolishness, Eva decided to put an end to the affair and free him of all responsabilities. He insisted on giving her money for some time until she refused to take any more. -
Eva broke up with Eric
Upon discovering that Eric had been stealing the money he had been giving her from the family bussiness, Eva told him she was no longer going to accept money from him, and that she didn't want to see him again. -
Eva turned to the Brumley Women's Charity Organization for assistance
Eva went to the charity organization to ask for assistance. She candidly introduced herself as Mrs. Birling, not knowing that Sybil Birling was in the interviewing committee. Sybil Birling was outraged. Realizing her unfortunate mistake, Eva said it was the first name she came up with and improvised a story of her life. Not satisfied with the story, Sybil Birling used her influence to have her petition rejected. -
Eva committed suicide
Helpless and overwhelmed, Eva decided to take her life and that of the baby she was carrying. She swallowed great amounts of a strong disinfectant and died shortly after in the Infirmary.
