    Bartolomeu Dias and his crew ventured out into the vast open sea with plans to find a trade route with india. After a while a wicked storm threw them of course and they headed the wrong way. Bartolomeu Dias was forced to turn back because of the crews fears. On the return trip land was spotted. Land Ho! the Cape of Good Hope was founded by Bartolomeu Dias

    Vasco's voyage had the perpose of sailing around Africa to India. He sailed with the intent of signing a treaty of trade with India. Sadly he didn't sign the treaty because the Zamorin (the indian's leader) was unwilling to sign the treaty. Although on the bright side, Vasco still made trades before he left and he made his mark in history!

    Bartolomeu also went on another expedition but he did not lead it. Pedro Alvares Calbra's led this expedition to trade with India. Yet again, due to their confusion about their location. They sailed way to far southeast that they reached land never seen before by the europeans. this was a new territory to them that was eventually named Brazil.

    Juan Ponce De Leon found Florida on April 2, 1513, calling it "Pascua de Florida" ( Feast of Flowers) because he had landed on Palm Sunday. He had landed on the northeast coast of Florida where there were many beautiful flowers, which was another reason for naming the land, Florida.

    Magellan and his crew had been searching for a passage into the next ocean, but he was unable to find one before the winter months were upon them, so they were forced to stay a winter in South America, and when they set off again, they could not find one until October. Because the ocean that he found was much calmer than the rough Strait, he called it the Pacific Ocean, the name we still use today.

    Because Magellan died before the voyage was completed, he did not see his crew back home. It was unfortunate that only 17 of the original 240 crew members made it back. Only one ship of the original five, the Victoria, returned to her home port. These men, and Ferdinand Magellan especially, even if they were not recognized as such until much later.

    They built Fort Mandan this winter, close to Washburn, North Dakota. They met a French-Canadian fur trapper named Toussaint Charbonneau while they were at Fort Mandan and his wife Sacagawea helped translate for them with the local Mandan tribe because they were in their territory.

    They reached the Pacific coast and voted to camp on the south side of the Columbia River building Fort Clatsop. The ironic thing about it though is that Sacagawea and York (Clark's slave) got to participate in the vote making this possibly the first time when a women and a slave were allowed to vote. They began returning on March 23, 1806.

    Ernest decided to lead an expedition, the boats name was named Endurance. When the ice came the ship started to flow(ice flow) at that time EWrnest called for the abandoment to the boat. On 24 of October 1915 the Endurance sunk.

    On April 9,1915 Ernest and his men got to Elephant island, this was the first time they had stood up in about 397 days! Talk about bad luck. Ernest's men had been on mounts of flouting ice for 2 weeks, after the Endurance sunk the men hauled all of there stuff onto the ice. This made the men cold, but Ernest was a big help, for he gave his own mittens to a man named Frank Hurely. This act not only made him colder but it alsomade him suffer of a severe heart attack.
