Bartolomeu Dias and his crew ventured out into the vast open sea with plans to find a trade route with india. After a while a wicked storm threw them of course and they headed the wrong way. Bartolomeu Dias was forced to turn back because of the crews fears. On the return trip land was spotted. Land Ho! the Cape of Good Hope was founded by Bartolomeu Dias

Vasco da Gama Reaches India

May 20, 1498

Vasco's voyage had the perpose of sailing around Africa to India. He sailed with the intent of signing a treaty of trade with India. Sadly he didn't sign the treaty because the Zamorin (the indian's leader) was unwilling to sign the treaty. Although on the bright side, Vasco still made trades before he left and he made his mark in history!

New territory found

Bartolomeu also went on another expedition but he did not lead it. Pedro Alvares Calbra's led this expedition to trade with India. Yet again, due to their confusion about their location. They sailed way to far southeast that they reached land never seen before by the europeans. this was a new territory to them that was eventually named Brazil.

Juan Ponce De Leon Finding Florida

Juan Ponce De Leon found Florida on April 2, 1513, calling it "Pascua de Florida" ( Feast of Flowers) because he had landed on Palm Sunday. He had landed on the northeast coast of Florida where there were many beautiful flowers, which was another reason for naming the land, Florida.

Hernando Cortes Reaches Yucatan

On April 21,1518 Hernando Cortes Reaches the small island of Yucatan(now the state of Tabasco) where he was sent by Diego Velazquez to build a colony.There, he battled Native Americans and captured many people including an Aztec princess, who then became his interpreter and advisor.

Ferdinand Magellan Reaches the Strait of Magellan

Magellan and his crew had been searching for a passage into the next ocean, but he was unable to find one before the winter months were upon them, so they were forced to stay a winter in South America, and when they set off again, they could not find one until October. Because the ocean that he found was much calmer than the rough Strait, he called it the Pacific Ocean, the name we still use today.

Ferdinand Magellan's Crew Returns from Circumnavigating the Globe

Because Magellan died before the voyage was completed, he did not see his crew back home. It was unfortunate that only 17 of the original 240 crew members made it back. Only one ship of the original five, the Victoria, returned to her home port. These men, and Ferdinand Magellan especially, even if they were not recognized as such until much later.

Hudson got to the Grand Banks, there him and his crew met Native Americans and they traded.He found things he really needed and traded it for things he did'nt need, then he moved on to Cap Cod on August 4.

James Cook struck the Great Barrier reef

James crossed the Antarctic Circle

James and his crew was the first ships to be recorded to cross the Antarctic Circle. After that he had been caught in some fog along the way to New Zealand but the fog had seperated some of his crews.

Lewis and Clark first winter during expedition

They built Fort Mandan this winter, close to Washburn, North Dakota. They met a French-Canadian fur trapper named Toussaint Charbonneau while they were at Fort Mandan and his wife Sacagawea helped translate for them with the local Mandan tribe because they were in their territory.

Lewis and Clark reach the Pacific Ocean

They reached the Pacific coast and voted to camp on the south side of the Columbia River building Fort Clatsop. The ironic thing about it though is that Sacagawea and York (Clark's slave) got to participate in the vote making this possibly the first time when a women and a slave were allowed to vote. They began returning on March 23, 1806.

James Beckwourth's trading post

James Beckwourth's time in the Mexican War

In 1846 the Mexican War started as James Beckwouth was heading back into the United States. He brought about 1,800 stolen Mexican horses as prey of war. In the war, he was a messenger with the US Army, and helped smother the other sides Revolt.

Powell is Getting Ready to Go

Powell adopts the family horse to take with him on the expedition, and finds his crew. Also, he said good bye to most of his family and friends, and took a few people with him. He tries finding food that will supply him for ten months

Indians were interrupted in their sleep and found Powell and his crew at their camp. In their sleep, the crew's camp got burned to the ground, making them leave and use some of the last of their camp supplies for the next few months.

They Go Back Home

Finally, they went back home and celebrated Christmas late with their families. Some families nothice that the people had come back, but they didn't have any family members come back to them.

Ernest takes expedition

Ernest goes on an expedition with Celements Markham. He was in charge of storing supplies and entertainment. On the 8th of January, 1901 Ernest reached there destination, Antartica Coast, Via Capetown and New Zealand.

Endurance Sinks

Ernest decided to lead an expedition, the boats name was named Endurance. When the ice came the ship started to flow(ice flow) at that time EWrnest called for the abandoment to the boat. On 24 of October 1915 the Endurance sunk.

They made it to Elephant island!

On April 9,1915 Ernest and his men got to Elephant island, this was the first time they had stood up in about 397 days! Talk about bad luck. Ernest's men had been on mounts of flouting ice for 2 weeks, after the Endurance sunk the men hauled all of there stuff onto the ice. This made the men cold, but Ernest was a big help, for he gave his own mittens to a man named Frank Hurely. This act not only made him colder but it alsomade him suffer of a severe heart attack.

Leif moves in with Thryker

Erik is banished

Erik the red (Leif's father) was banished from iceland from the king, because he got into a fight and ended up killing/murdering the man that he faught with.Erik is shown in lego because of our lego presentation.
