Week One: Your Last Menstrual Period
This is the first week of a 40 week pregnacy. The official start of pregnancy takes place the first day of menstrual bleeding. -
Week Two: Fertilization
The sperm travels from the Vagina into the Uterus. Fertilization occurs when the sperm and egg join in the fallopian tube. -
Week Three: Cells Join, Divide - New life begins
The sperm travels through the Uterus and into the Fallopian Tube where it will penetrate and fertilize an egg. Sperm can live up to 5 days in this environment. -
Week Four: Implantation
When the egg is fertilized, it starts dividing and travels to the Uterus. It is here where the sex of the baby is determined. -
Week Five: The Embryonic Stage Begins
The Placenta is starting to develop. The embryo recieves oxygen and nutrients through the placenta. -
Week Six: The Heart Begins to Beat
Blood vessels and blood cells start to develope and a pipe shaped heart starts to form and beat. The brain is also divided into five parts. -
Week Seven: Arms and Legs Begin to Grow
The baby's main organs are starting to developed as well as their arms and legs. The heart has now been divided into two chambers. -
Week Eight: Starts to Practice Moving
The embryo is starting to practice moving. Mouth and teeth are also starting to from as well as facial features. -
Week Nine: Fingers and Toes Form
The baby's eyelids start to form. Aslo the toes and fingers are starting to develope. Finally the main construction the heart is made. -
Week Ten: Embryo is Now a Fetus
The embryo is now called a fetus. The muscles are mostly developed.The fingerprint can now be seen. -
Week Eleven: Neurons Multiply
The fingers and toes are seperate now. The cartlige is becoming bone. The taste buds are forming -
Week Twelve: Fingernails and Toenails Appear
The pancreas starts to function and produce insulin. The baby's fingernails and toenails appear and they are able to suck on thier thumbs and hiccup. -
Week Thirteen: Baby Flexes and Kicks
Ribs are starting to appear and bones are replacing cartilage. The baby is able to open and close their mouth. -
Week Fourteen: Hormones Start Up
The baby's facial features start to become more developed. The kidneys start to produce urine. -
Week Fifteen: Bones and Muscles Grow
The baby is able to move and make their hand into a fist. Their skin is still pretty thin. -
Week Sixteen: Facial Expressions are Possible
The baby is able to hear external noise. Fat starts to develop under skin. -
Week Seventeen: Fat Accumulates
The umbilical cord continues to grow stronger and longer. The eyes are now in the front of the face. -
Week Eighteen: Baby Begins to Hear
The skin begins to build a protective wax layer. The baby begins to be startled by outside noises. Air sacs begin to form. -
Week Nineteen: Genitals Recognizable
The placenta grows and feeds the baby. Also you can tell the gentitals of the baby. -
Week Twenty: The Halfway Point
The mother's voice is recognizable. The mom can start feeling the fetus move. The hair also starts to grow. -
Week Twenty One: Nourishment Evolves
Blood cells are starting to be made by the bone marrow. Sugars are being absorbed by the small intestine. -
Week Twenty Two: Taste buds Develop
The baby reacts to loud noises. The baby's taste buds are starting to form. -
Week Twenty Three: Sense of balance develops
You can now see the baby's eyebrows. The baby can suck properly. -
Week Twenty Four: Practices Breathing
The eyelids are clearly seen at this point. The baby can be birth at this time with a chance to survive. -
Week Twenty Five: Exploration Continues
The bones are fully developed. The baby sexual organs are also fully developed. -
Week Twenty Six: Second Trimester Ends This Week
The eyes of the baby begin to open. The baby starts making breathing movements. -
Week Twenty Seven: Eyes Can Open
The deveoplment of the hearing contuines. Now the baby can blink and open it's eyes. -
Week Twenty Eight: May Recognize Your Voice
The baby's hair is now compeletly visable. It's eyes are now starting to move into the sockets. -
Week Twenty Nine: Movement Is More Forceful
The fetus now can respond to pain and taste. Under the teeth the milk teeth hae developed. -
Week Thirty: Baby Puts On Pounds
The baby can now controls its own body temperture. The baby;s skin is becoming smoother. -
Week Thirty One: Baby Detects Light
The eyes are now responding to lights and darks. Loud noises can cause the baby to jump. -
Week Thirty Two: Reproductive Development Continues
The fat layer is becoming thicker. The scrotum detaches from the groin. -
Week Thirty Three: Lanugo is Disappearing
The baby drinks about a pint of amniotic fluid a day. The baby fuzz lanugo is being replaced with actual hair. -
Week Thirty Four: Rapid Growth Continues
The fingernails are completely formed. The eyes are able to open when awake and close while alseep. -
Week Thirty Five: Reflexes are Coordinated
The babies lungs are now fully developed and thier reflexes become coordinated. -
Week Thirty Six: Baby May Drop into the Birth Canal
Fat layers continue to build. It is possible the mother would feel contractions in the womb. The baby may also drop into the birth canal making it easier to breathe for the mother -
Week Thirty Seven: Pregnancy is Considered 'At Term'
The baby is gaining one ounce a day. The water could now break at anytime. -
Week Thirty Eight: Development is Complete
The baby's fat continues to grow. The skin that was once wrinkled becomes soft. -
Week Thirty Nine: Very Close Now
The baby is now its its final birth position. The downy coating of lanugo has mostly disappeared. -
Week Forty: Your Due Date Arrives
The baby is ready to be conceived and it is only a matter of time until contractions start.
