The civil rights movement of the 1960s saw a surge of local Klan activity across the South, including the bombings, beatings and shootings of black and white activists. -
Desegregation at the University of Alabama
Facing federalized Alabama National Guard troops, Alabama Governor George Wallace ends his blockade of the University of Alabama. He allowed two African American students to enroll. two African American students–Vivian Malone and James A. Hood–successfully enrolled. -
John F. Kennedy Assassination
President John F. Kennedy was assassinated as he rode in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas, Texas. Police arrested Lee Harvey Oswald, a recently hired employee at the Texas School Book Depository. He was being held for the assassination of President Kennedy. -

The Black Panther Party was a revolutionary black nationalist and socialist organization. The Panthers practiced militant self-defense of minority communities against the U.S. government. Ronald Reagan Assassination Attempt
69 days into his presidency, Ronald Reagan was shot by John Hinckley Jr. He was shot in the chest but survived. Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity on charges of attempting to assassinate the President.
