  • Robert Hooke gave the name "cells" to the box-like structures he observed in the cork tissue.

    Hooke saw that both plants and animals were compromised of cells and this has helped our understanding of living things.

    Several weak lenses used together at different distances provided good magnification without a blurry image.

    Allows to image transparent specimen
