Columbus' Arrival to the Americas
Christopher Columbus first discovered the land now called America in 1492. This was the first kind of immigration due to the fact that indigenous people already lived on the land. First Africans come to Virginia
The first Africans came on a ship to Jamestown, Virginia as laborers. The Naturalization Act
The Alien Naturalzation Act defined the procedures to be followed by the U.S. for those to be granted citizenship.The terms were that the person had to have lived in America for two years and their state of residency for one year as well as having good moral character. This act was used to decide if an immigrant should be allowed to get citizenship. Mainly, it denied citizenship to those who were unlawful, without morals, or diseased. Real ID Act of 2005
This act reiterates that valid identification documents and driver's licenses are an important way to keep our country safe and also to prove citizenship.Those without identification cards could risk being taken to authorities for questioning.
