This timespan is about Jacques Cartier's first voyage to the "New World". This is when he first meets the people of this new land, and gets to know them better.

When he arrives at Baie de Chaleur, he meets a friendly group of Huron-Iroquoians, who then take him to their leader, Chief Donnacona. Cartier and the chief trade items, this beingthe first recorded trade action between the Europeans and the Natives of this new world he was in.

In the Gaspe Peninsula, Jacques Cartier had broken many ties with the natives when he put up a cross in the name of France, claiming possession of the land. The chief found this improper, and not wanting to face the consequences of the discontent, Jacques lied and said it was just a landmark.

Jacques decides to take Chief Donnacona’s 2 sons, Dom Agaya and Taignoagny for proof of this new world. He takes them back to King Francis -who is all the way in France- and promises to return them safely to their original home. The chief did not want to part with his sons, but as he had little choice, he had to give his sons away wondering if he would ever see them again.

On his way back to France, Jacques learned from the 2 young boys that the chief, their father, had named their land “Kanata”, and he wrote it down on his maps and charts to mark the land.

Jacques then presented the 2 boys to the king of France, who was pleased and gave him a new commission to return again to the new world.

This timespan is about Jacques Cartier's second voyage to the "New World". Here, he encounters most of his challenges, as this is not the intro, nor the end.

Jacques Cartier set off for his second voyage- back to the “new world” to explore islands and to look for riches and a route to Asia.

Cartier went up by the Cap Rouge River to Montreal and stopped on this date because of the rapids. 1000 natives came to greet him.

Cartier stayed in Montreal from 1535 to mid April 1536 for the winter because of the icy rivers and harsh weather.

Cartier and his crew set off to France once again, along with the St. Lawrence Iroquoians chief, his two sons, 3 other natives as well as 5 children who were to be “gifted” to the king of France.

This timespan is about Jacques Cartier's third and last voyage to the "New World". There are no more voyages after this, as he gains no more commisions.

Cartier arrives back in France, thinking that he has succeeded. He finds out that the diamonds were quartz, and the gold was iron pyrite. His reputation is fatally ruined.
