    In January of 49BC, Caesar crossed the Rubicon River (border of Italia) with his army, breaking the Roman law and starting a civil war. "Alea iacta est?" He led the army across the flooding river against the will of the spirit of the fatherland. This led to the battle between Caesar and Pompey for the control of Rome, a fight that would change the Roman government forever.

    Caesar became a dictator giving him total control over Rome. He made many changes, like reforming the calendar, giving and land to soldiers and setting up new colonies, but his power made many people fear he would become a king. He weakened the Senate by increasing the number of Senators to 900.

    On March 15 44BC, Julius Caesar was killed by a group of Senators, Brutus (his adopted son) and Cassius because he obtained too much power. "Et tu mi file Brute?" He was stabbed 23 times.
    His death caused chaos in Rome and a Civil War broke out.
