Bombing of Old Trafford WW2
Not long after the Manchester Blitz Old Trafford was hit badly by a series of bombings, this caused MUFC to share Maine Road with MCFC for the following four seasons. -
Appointment of Matt Busby
After the poor few years after the war Matt Busby wanted to bring MUFC back to the top flight and he led the club to many successes -
The Signing of Bobby Charlton
Charlton was one of Busby's wonder boys and had a large part of the busby babes. In total he won 9 trophies with the club, one of which was the UEFA Champions League. During the time he was with United Charlton also won the FIFA World Cup in 1966. -
The Munich Air Disaster
The Busby Babes had just played Red Star Belgrade in a rearranged European match in Munich. The plane on which the players were on suffered a failed take off and crashed severely. 23 of the people on the plane died in the crash. Sir Matt Busby and Sir Bobby Charlton were among the survivors of the disaster -
1968 UEFA Champions League Winners
Even after the Munich Air Disaster Busby was winning titles. MUFC played Portuguese side Benfica and thrashed them in a 4-1 win at Wembely. -
Relegation
Scott, Tommy Docherty let United slip down from the first division for the first and only time in the clubs history. Docherty redeemed himself by getting promoted the next season -
Appointment of José Mourinho
After the unsuccessful post Ferguson era United hope that Mourinho will do a better job than van Gaal did. Mourinho had been recently sacked by Chelsea and was ready for a fresh start. -
Appointment of Alex Ferguson
Ferguson spent 27 years managing the club and won 38 trophies, his management at MUFC was unbelievable. He led the club through their most successful era. He was the first manager to lead a team to a treble in 1999 when he won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. -
Class of '92
The class of '92 consists of David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Gary and Phil Neville, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs. They were the team which rose from the MUFC youth squad to win multiple EPL titles and the eventually went on to win the UEFA Champions League. All of the players left the club apart from Giggs who decided to stay on and become the assistant manager of Louis van Gaal. -
The Treble
Sir Alex Ferguson was the first manager to win the treble. The treble is when a team wins the top division, the domestic cup and the European league. Sir Alex's team eased to the EPL and FA Cup titles. They beat Bayern Munich in a thrilling Champions League final when United came back from 1-0 at half time. Some of the players in Fergusons team were the Class of 92', Eric Cantona, Teddy Sheringham and Peter Schmeichel. -
Signing of Cristiano Ronaldo
After playing a European match against Sporting Lisbon the club saw Cristiano's talent. The club were quick and eager to get Ronaldo to Manchester. It was a hard decision for the teenager to make but he knew what was best for him. Ronaldo signed a £13.13m deal from Lisbon to Manchester and he showed his worth at United by winning the UEFA Champions League with them in 2008 and 4 premier league titles. -
Signing of Wayne Rooney
Wayne signed a £25.6m deal at the age of 18. His starting wage was £50,000 a week which is unbelievable for a teenager. He showed his talent quickly by scoring a hatrick in his first game. Rooney has won many EPL, FA Cup and League Cup titles with United as well as a UEFA Champions League title. -
Glazer ownership of MUFC
The Glazer family in USA bought the club for almost £800. It took the Glazers a while to finally become the full owners of the club. When they bought the club they had big intentions and they have followed through with their plan. As well as a football club Man United is a massive company and produces masses of money, enough to fund itself. -
2008 UEFA Champions League Final
The Final took place in Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, Russia. It was an all English final. It ended up to be a teeth clenching match. At full time it was 1-1 and the match went onto penalties. Due to Nikolas Anelka missing his penalty against Edwin van der Sar. -
The Post Ferguson Era
There was a large upset after Ferguson left Old Trafford, he had been with the club for 27 years. Ferguson decided to give the job to David Moyes who was his assistant manager back at Aberdeen. Moyes wasn't successful at all at the club, he finished in 7th place failing to qualify for Europe. This wasn't acceptable at a club of such high standards therefore after only one season in charge he was given the sack. -
Appointment of Louis van Gaal
After managing the Netherlands in the 2014 FIFA World Cup van Gaal was set to replace Moyes and this time the club and fans were very hopeful as of his history with Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. After his first season we were satisfied as we had qualified for Europe. Van Gaal made some major signings such as Angel Di María after his first season. However van Gaals tac tics didnt seem to shown as for the second time in three years United failed to qualify for Europe. So he got the sack. -
