When Mao was in College, he was the librarian's assistant. Since he had a lot of time on his hands in the libreary, he read many books. A majority of those were books about politics.
The books he read allowed him to understand how politics work and that was also what pulled him into being a politician.
The work he did as a politician led him to become the leader/president of China. -
Even though he lost the war against he Nationalist - The Long March, he didn't give up and still fought hard to gain control.

In 1934, Mao and his army(The Red Army) lost the war against the Nationalist's. This led tot he retreat of Mao's army. People call that March The Lng March because of the immense amount distance they had to travel.

Effect: They had to retreat to some where else, resulting in the Long March towards the North of China. -
Around the later 1930's, Mao was elected to be the leader/president of the Chinese Communist Party. This was a big step to his goal of taking control of China and making it fully communist.
