Balfour Declaration
The Balfour Declaration was issued in the form of a letter from the British Foreign Secretary to Lord Rothschild. It was expressing British support for a Jewish "national home" in Palestine.One theory for why the declaration came to be is that, possibility, it is that the declaration was deliberately contrived to allow the British to renege on earlier promises to France and the Arabs regarding Palestine -
Palestine Become British Mandate
After World War I, League of Nations gives Britain control of Palestine. The British decided to seperate parts of Palestine for Jewsish and Arab settlements. -

The Holocaust was the state sponsered persecution and slaughter of approximately six million Jews. It took place during World War II and was led by Adolf Hitler. It was a big reason why there were more Jews moving/living in the Holy Land in 1947. -
Six Day War
The Six Day War was fought between June 5th through the 10th. It was fought by by Israel and the neighboring states of Egypt (known at the time as the United Arab Republic), Jordan, and Syria. On June 5th Israel began launching surprise attacks against Egyptian air-forces in response to the mobilisation of Egyptian forces on the Israeli border. In response to PLO sabotage acts against Israeli targets, Israel raided into the Jordanian-controlled West Bank where the Arab's resided. -
Arab Oil Embargo
The OAPEC proclaimed an oil embargo which caused the price of gasoline to dramatically rise from $3-12$. Because of the Yom Kippur War that same year, Egypt & Syria (and with support from the Arab nations) launched a military campaign against Israel on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar in order to regain Arab territories lost to Israel in the 1967 Six Day War. The U.S. decided to aid Israel and because of this the OAPEC retaliated and declared an oil embargo. -
Yom Kipper War
(Ramadan War) This war began when the Arab coalition launched a joint surprise attack on Israeli positions on Yom-Kippur which was the holiest day in Judaism- which occured that year during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Egyptian and Syrian forces crossed ceasefire lines to enter the Sinai Peninsula & Golan Heights. Both the U.S. and USSR intiated massive aid to their allies during this war. This led to near confrontation between two nuclear superpowers. -
Alaskan Pipeline
This was a trans-alaskan pipeline that included: crude-oil pipeline, 11 pump stations, several hundred miles of feeder pipelines, and the Valdez Marine Terminal. It was created due to the sharp rise in oil prices because of the Arab Oil Embargo. The U.S. desperately needed to find oil because of Kuwait's location, but Iraq had conflicts and invaded Kuwait. The USSR was allies with Iraq. Kuwait's location boardered the Persian Gulf which was an incredible source for valuable resources. -
Jimmy Carter Becomes President
Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the U.S. Carter pursued SALT II and returned the Panama Canal Zone to Panama. at the end of his presidency he was faced with the Iran Hostage Crisis and the Soviets invasion of Afghanistan. Carter remains particularly vocal on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. -

Peace Accords between Israel and Egypt at the U.S. Presidential retreat Camp David, MD. In the agreeement Israel agreed to return the Sihai to Egypt . Two nations agreed to negotiate Palestinian autonomy measures in the Israeli- occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip. -
Iran Hostage Crisis
A group of Iranian students stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking more than 60 American hostages. The reason for this is because Jimmy Carter's decision to allow Iran's deposed shah to come to the U.S. for cancer treatment. These student revolutions took place to end American interference in its affairs. -
Soviets invade Afghanistan
The Soviets invaded Afghanistan to ensure that a pro-soveit regime would be in power in the country. The Soviet invasion was oppose b the Afghan guerrillas (Mujdeen). The Mujdeen were armed by the U.S. and faught the Soviets to a standstill. Afghanistan had become the equivalent of Vietnam in American foreign policy. -

Ronal Reagan was the 40th president of the U.S. By ordering Naval escorts in the Persian Gulf, he maintained the free flow of oil during the Iran-Iraq War. The Reagan years saw a restoration of prosperity, and the goal of peacce through strength seemed to be within grasp. -
George H.W. Bush Becomes President
George H.W. Bush was the 41st president of the U.S. Bush rallied the UN, the U.S. people, and congress and sent 425,000 U.S. troops to Kuwait becuase Iraq invaded it and threatened to move into Saudi Arabia. The 100-hour land battle dabbed Desert Storm routed Iraq's million-man army. -
Desert Storm
(Gulf War) This was a war waged by coalition forces from 34 nations led by the U.S. against Iraq in response to their invasion and annexation of Kuwait. Throughout the Cold War, Iraq was an ally of the Soviet Union- there was a history between it and the U.S. It concerned the U.S. because of their position on Israeli-Palenstinian politics and it's disapproval of the nature & peace between Israel and Egypt. Kuwait was apart of the O.E., a thing that Iraq claimed as territory. (US wanted Kuwait.) -
Bill Clinton Becomes President
Bill Clinton was the 42nd president of the U.S. He succssfully disptched peace keeping forces to war-torn Bosnia and bombed Iraq when Suddam Hussein stopped UN inspections for evidence of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons. -
World Trade Center 1993
A terrorist bomb exploded in a parking garage of the World Trade Center in New York City. Several radical Islamic Fundamentalists were arrested. the gas enhanced device was intended to knock the North Tower into the South tower, bringing both towers down and killing thousands of people. -

The Central Asian Battalion (centrazbat) was formed by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan as a peace keeping unit to provide peace and stability in central Asia. Centrazbat has held multinational exsercises in Central Asia to learn other nations' tactics in hopes of becoming a full-fledged paricipan in Un peacekeeping operations. -
Embassy Bombing in Kenya
A yellow van approached the U.S. embassy in Nairobi, Kenya and threw a grenade-like device at the guard. The guard ran off and they went inside and blew up the builiding. 214 people were killed in the bombing, including 12 American citizens, and over 4,000 were injured. Embassy Bombing in Tanznia
The U.S. embassy in Der es Salaam, Tanzania was bombed by terrorists. leaving 258 people dead and more than 5,000 injured. In response, the U.S. launched cruise missiles on Aug. 20, 1998 striking a terrorism training complex in Afghanistan. These places were believed to be behind the embassy bombing. -
U.S.S. Cole
It was a suicide attack against the United States Navy guided- missile destroyer USS Cole (DDG- 67) while it was harbored and being refueled in the Yemen Port of Aden. 17 American soldiers were killed, 39 were injured. Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack and a U.S. Judge had held Sudan liable for the attack. -
