Soviet Sputnik
This isn't a part of NASA. Since the Soviets were the first to put a salttlite in space. The Space Race Started to send the first man in Space. -

After the Space Race began NASA tried to get John Glenn to orbit the earth as fast as they could. -
Computers Hired
This year many African American and white female computers were hired to help with the calculations. Katherine was one that was hired. -
NASA formed
NASA over took NACA and became the only space program in America. -
NACA dissolved
NACA wasn't needed anymore because NASA was doing all the major work. -
X-15 rocket plane
This was the first experimental rocket that NASA put into space. They thought that they would be able to see space. This didn't work. -
Project Gemini
NASA was trying to grow there horizon from Project Mercury. They wanted to be the first Spacewalk. Ed White was the first to "walk" in space. -
Skylab
Skylab was the first and only idenpent buit space station. It constanly sends photos and information. -
Apollo Program
The Apollo Program was to send the first man on the moon. The Apollo Program was one of the most expensive programs in all of NASA. Neil Armstong and Buzz Adrin were yhe first man on the moon. -
Space Shuttle Program
This program became the major program in the late 70's and early 80's. This shuttle program eneded in 2011 -
International Space Station
The International Space Station is used to present day. This combines many space stations from different countries Such as Japan, Russia, Canada, and Europe. -
NASA Now
Now many programs that they started they are now continuing. Like, international space station, commercial crew program, and many others.
