First rocket in space
The german V2 was the first rocket to reach 100km from the earths surface. The rocket was designed by Von Braun. This was an important event because it enables us to have a good foundation for space travel. Without a rocket, you cant enter space! -
First animals in space
Fruit flies were the first animals in space, launched from a v-2 rocket on Feb. 20 1947. This shows us the effects of radiation exposure at high altitides for any living object. -
First Satellite in Space
On October 4 1957, Russia launched the first satellite into space(Sputnik 1). It was the first man made object to leave the earths atmosphere! -
NASA was formed
NASA is assembled after congress passes the National Aeronautics and Space Act. This was an very important event because they finally had an space agency dedicated to space exploration. -
First Space probe on the moon
On 1959, Russians space probe "Luna 2" crash landed into the moon. This event allows astronomers from 1959 to know that an spacecraft actually has the ability to reach the moon. From then on, they can improve, and see what they've done wrong. -
First human in space
On April 12 1961, Yuri Gagarin was the first ever human to journey outer space. Yuri managed to orbit around the earth, and it showed us valuable information on the males human body reaction to space. -
John F. Kennedy speech
Americas President John F. Kennedy first gave the speech about America being the first man on the moon, it inspired the world to enter the space age. It egged people on, and competition rised above all nations. -
First women in Space
First women in space would be Valentina Vladimirovna, who piloted the Vostok on June 16 1963. This was eventful because it enables us to collect data on the females body reaction to space flight. Also, it shows equality that both genders has the ability to go to space. -
First to Orbit the moon
Apollo 8 was the first manned spacecraft to orbit another celestial body(the moon). The astonauts Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders was also the first people to see earth as a full planet. This successful mission paved an entry way for Apollo 11 next year -
First man on the moon
On the historical flight apollo 11, Neil armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Micheal Collins went on a journey to the moon. Neil Armstrong was the first man to take steps on the moon. This was a very significant event becuase it adavanced our knowledge, and it led to other discoveries and exploration. -
Apollo 13 Suffered
Within the two days to the adventure of the moon, Apollo 13 suffered an explosion by a wiring fault. NASA and asteonauts on board improvised to bring them back home. This was important because we truley saw how dangerous space flight could be, and we also learned more about survival in space. -
Lunch of Viking 1 and 2
The first orbiter and lander sent to mars to collect data. Viking 2 only launched a few weeks later, and both landed saftely from mars. After six years, the two orbiters have been sending photographs and data from mars. -
Voyager 1 and 2
The voyager probes were released to collect data for Jupiter and Saturn. Because of the voyage probes, we've learnt active volcanoes on Jupiter's moons, and the intricacies of Saturn's rings. According to NASA, Voyage 1 has travelled farther than anyone or anything in history. -
Hubble space telescope
The hubble space telescope was carried into space by an space shuttle. It is a very powerful telescope , which is far from the earths atmosphere. One of the greatest improvments since it allows us to to see pictures of galaxies and stars a hundred light years away! -
NEAR Shoemaker mission
The NEAR shoemaker landed on the asteroid 433 eros. It was the first spacecraft mission to specifically study an asteroid. Becuase of this, the spacecraft has sent back 69 photos of up close photograpghs near an asteroid, and enhanced our understanding of an asteroid. -
International space station
The ISS is an artificial satellite, and is the largest space object in spcace to this day. It is used to be a facotry, laboratory, and obseratory in space. And it also provides research that scientists back home cant reach. -
Chandra X-Ray Observator
The chandra X-ray does an X-ray astronomy of the universe. It is especially used to observe x-rays from high energy regions such as remnants of stars, and particles leading up to a blackhole. The chandra X-ray has improved our understanding of the orgin and evolution on the universe. -
Launch of Genesis
The main purpose would be to collect samples of atoms from solar winds. After capturing atoms from the sun, Genesis makes a crash on to Utah, and despite the damage scientists are still able to collect the data from Genesis. -
Spirit and opportunity mars rovers
Spirit and opportunity are both robotic rovers destined to land on opposite ends of mars. Both rovers continue to explore mars, and send back information for us to collect. -
Deep Impact Spacecraft
This spacecraft was designed to explore the internal inside of the comet 9P/Temple, by releasing an Impactor into the comet. This was sucessful, and it collided with the comets nucleus. The impact from the interior of the nucleus allowed photos of the impact crater. This increased our knowledge of comets.
