A organization that was created to check for Communisim in the U.S. This created an increase of intimidation in the U.S. for making people think that communists are in America. This operation lasted until 1975. -
War Powers Act
This act was able to give the President more power during WWII. The president is allowed to reorganize the executive brance and control communications. There are 2 War power act in general. -
Berlin Airlift
When the Berlin Blockade was established, Germany was splited in half. West side is free and the East side is Communist. The East side was under ruin. The Berlin Airlift was created as the safest way of transporting goods to them. -
Mao Zedong
A Communist leader in China. He lead a long revolution since 1927. He was concidred one of the Communist figure. -
Iron Curtain
It is a metaphorical description between the democratic and communist. It was estabilshed by U.S.S.R. after WWII. This was part of the beginning of the Cold War. -
Cold War
A war between the democratic, U.S. and the communist, U.S.S.R. None of them have made a military attack. How ever we have some close calls. If the war was active it would turn into a nuclear war. -
Containment Policy
Similar to HUAC this was a responce to the spread of Communism in other rea. This was to make sure the comunism won't spread any further. It only lasted unitil 1989. -
John F. Kennedy
The 35th president of the United states. He stopped the Cuban Missile Crisis, and supported west Berlin. He was assasinated in November 22, 1963. -
Truman Doctrine
A principle that would have the U.S. support countries that is threaten by the Soviets. This was created by president Truman during a Congress speech. He was hoping to aid Greece and Turkey. -
Marshall Plan
It was created by George Marshall, the secretary of state. A financial aid for the Europe. This was created so their economies would go back to normal. -
Domino Theory
t's a theory created by Dwight D. Eisnehower. It stated if any of the country was attack by communist then the surrounding country will get involved. This event occured in Vietnam. -
McCarthyism
An act of accusing people for being Communist. This was Joseph Mcarthy for trying to get rid of communist in the U.S. Many lives were ruin because of that. -
Korean War
War between the North and south Korea. Similar to Vietnam war, this was so Korea can either be settle as a communist country or a democratic country. Korea ended up being divided into 2 lands because of that. To this day Korea still have issues. -
Rosenberg Trials
Two couples were sent to trial for selling secrets of the atomic bomb to U.S.S.R. The reason why they ddi this is because they were spies. They were executed at the end. -
Jonas Salk
A medical researcher that created a vaccine for polio. There was an outbreak of polio sonce 1938. He took part of a project aided by National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. It took him 7 years to find out the vaccine. -
Dwight E. Eisenhower
Originally a 5-stars general and the 34th president of the United states. He ended the Korean war and put CIA around the war against communist. He also strengthened the Social Security and created the Interstate Highway system. -
Gary Powers
A fomous U.S. pilot who drove a U-2 spy plane. He was shot down and capture by the Soviet Union. He went to jail for 3 years and 7 years of labor force. He was later freed by the U.S -
Cuban Missile Crisis
U.S.S.R. establish a missile launcher station in Cuba. The U.S. found this out by a U2 spy plane and took action by persuading them to move it out. It took them 13 days to do that -
Lyndon B. Johnson
The 36th president of the United States. He signed the Civil rights Acts of 1964 and outlawing most segregation in 1968. He even increased U.S. involvement in Vietnam. -
Great Society
A society movement set up by Lyndon B. Johnson. THismovement was to eliminate poverty and injustice. It's results was short live and the results only lasted for a while. -
Anti-War Movement
A social movement of protester, protesting that we should not go to war with Vietnam. Many counter-cultures were made such as songs, organization, and even movies. However it really did not do much in terms of impact. -
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
U.S. destroyers stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam was destroied by the North Vietnam forces. Congress passed the GUlf of Tonkin Resolution for Lyndon B. Johnson to make necessary decision for this responce. This was so we for the sake of peace and security of southeast Asia. -
Roy Benavidez
An advisor who was sent to South VIetnam as support for a ARVN infantry.He accedently stepped on a land mine during a patrol. After he recovered he went back to Vietnam. -
Tet Offense 1968
An attack from North Vietnam during the Tet holiday (lunar new year). The battle was to make sure that the VIetnam rebellion will be taken down and to push back America. They won out the battle. -
Abby Hoffman
Leader of the protest of the anti-war. He perform several protest during the Vietnam war and made a scene in Woodstock. He became one of the famous counter culture faces. -
Vietnamization
Planned by president Richard NIxion. The plan was to have the U.S. troops move out of Vietnam. This was so that the U.S. won't have to fight the war. -
Richard Nixon
The 37th president of the United states. He came up with a secret plan, Vietnamization to have the U.S. troops leave Vietnam. He also caused more devastation of the U.S. He became one of the worst president ever, and the only president to resign. -
Vietnam War
War between communist and anti-communist. The North Vietnam was communist and the South Vietnam, also joined by the U.S. was anti-communist. The U.S. eventually left and the North eventually invaded the south.
