Sampon and Gregory (Capulets) try and start a fight with the Montagues, by biting their thumb at them. The Capulets insult the Montague's masculinity due to not wanting to start a fight and a brawl ensues. The prince steps in to break up the fight, he threatens both Montagues and Capulets that if another fight happens then Verona's peace will be at their expense. Romeo talks to Benvolio about love and a woman named Rosaline, this makes Romeo feel Unrequited love. -

Paris asks Lord Capulet for Juliet’s hand in marriage and Capulet suggests waiting two more years but he invites Paris to a feast, hoping he can win Juliet’s affection. Meanwhile, a Capulet servant, unable to read, asks Romeo and Benvolio for help with the guest list for the feast. Realizing Rosaline will attend, Benvolio convinces Romeo to go and compare her to other women. -

Later, they discover they are from rival families. -
